Cherry MX Browns or MX Reds?
I need to get a new keyboard since my keyboard iis double registering some keys when I type. My current keyboard has Cherry MX Blues and I'm startting to grow ttired of the clickiness so I decided to look at the Cherry MX Reds and Browns. I heard Cherry MX Reds are better for gaming since tthey'rre linear and don't have tthe bump, butt I listened to both and Browns sound morer satisfying and seem to have a better feel to them. I've never used Linear keys before though, so I can't really say which one has better push feel. I've grown used to having the Tactile Bump with the blues, so I'm worriedd that the Linear is gonna feel awkward to me. Would you say that Linearrs feel good? Sound doesn't really mattter to me since they're both quiet, it's just that Browns sound more satisfying imo which isn't a big deal. Feel of the keys is what matters to me.

ive tried other keys i can never give up the bump of blues.tried the browns while they are doable just didnt have that feelling you get when mashing a key.anyways i get double registering periodically and i remove the key cap in question take a can of air turn it upside down and shoot the liquid directly into the compressed clicky fixes it right up.have a 2013 black widow ultimate still works great

You could always purchase a key switch tester with various switches so you can try and decide for yourself. I choose one with 4 different switches but you can get them with more. This is the one I purchased a while ago.

Have tried a few but cherry reds just feel right, perfect for gaming and general typing.

Blues / Razer greens are the best IMO.
Reds aren't very nice, you can't feel when the key has been activated, so you have to press it down to much, just doesn't feel nice to type on for me.

Browns are pretty much the same, and in my exeprience are stiffer than blues, but are like Reds, linear until you hit right at the bottom, then you feel the bump at the bottom, but it's not like blues, it's more.....just gets a little stiffer.
I perfer Razer Greens or Blues; but I don't mind Browns, much better than Reds.

Honestly though, you should go and test them, or buy a tester off Ebay/Amazon.
It will really help you decide, as the only one that can tell you if you like it is you.

Was in the same situation, got the k552 combo on sale and the response from blues were great. Problem was, a lot of my gaming was at night and tended to echo through the house when everyone was asleep. Since I do a lot of typing for work the linear reds were not ideal but browns were a perfect match, you get the lighter weight like reds and the tactility of the blues without the clicking.

Gave the k552/m601 combo to a good friend a couple of years back, my favorite productivity board is the Qisan Magicforce 68 w/ Gateron browns which is a permanent fixture on my linux workstation. Was eyeing Logitech's romer-g boards for my gaming rig since I tried one on display and thought the lower activation point was perfect, currently using a budget tkl w/ low-profile browns from gofreetech - almost the same response as the Romer-G for 1/2 the price.

If you're looking at browns have to recommend checking out logitech boards on display at local stores to give them a try.

Really it all comes down to preference. Most people would probably say that blues are more for typing and reds are for gaming, but I personally find that reds are the most comfortable for both. Your best option (unless you just want to take a shot in the dark) is to go to your local electronics store and try out a handful of different keyboards.

I think you would be happy with either or. Just don't buy a cheap mechanical keyboard. Double registering keys is common on cheaper boards.

Yup, came in handy, did like that one came with 0 rings too. None of my local stores have much of a selection to try. No key pullers and wouldn't allow me to change a key on their display boards to try an O ring. Plus you can't fully get a feel for the noise in a store with people walking around and talking.

With a key tester at home and my usual amount of envirnoment noise I knew after a few key presses the blues were just too noisy. If I wore noise isolating headphones all the time when using a keyboard with blue switches maybe but as I don't they'd do my head in. Settles for reds with O rings. Quieter than my old membrane boards now :steamhappy:
