GPU Causing BSoD?
Hey,
I've been dealing with BSoD's for the last 3 months and I'm runing out of ideas.
Basically what would happen was I launched a game and the PC would almost immediately crash or freeze (lock up).
The BSoD's started as System service exception then apc index mismatch, some kernel error and so on.
At first I thought that a recent video driver update might have been the cause. So I updated the driver once more to the latest version. At first it seemed to increase time before crashing by a little, but it soon started crashing immediately after launching a game again.

And so I've cleaned my PC of dust, replaced my HDD with an SSD and added 1 case fan and at first it seemed like it helped since I wen't full 131 minutes of gaming before a crash.

One weird thing I noticed is that the fans usually go quiet when in-match and kick in when the loading screen or main menu appears. So could it be a fan configuration issue? Maybe the GPU isn't getting cooled the way it's supposed to.

I tried confirming my theory by installing MSI Afterburner but I can't seems to get the In-game overlay to work; something about the application not being compatible with my OS (Windows 10).

The only things I have in mind to try is, adding more case fans to improve air flow, and setting the fans at 100% all time in Afterburner to see if that helps cooling.

OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
CPU: AMD A8 6600k @ 3.9GHz, Quad-Core
RAM: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB OC-Edition, G1 Gaming (Current driver : 384.94, can update to 385.41)
PSU: 560W
Disk: 240GB SSD
MOBO: Some Gigabyte basic Mobo. - Don't know the full name.

You need to update ALL drivers from here:

https://www.asus.com/ca-en/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-GL552VW/HelpDesk_Download/

Then, for GPU drivers you must use DDU in safe mode, then install the 431.xx drivers from Nvidia's website directly.
Their NVIDIA GPU drivers will be on NVIDIA’s website and more up to date.

You don’t need DDU unless you’re low on hard disk space. Windows will use whichever driver version you installed and won’t automatically roll back to the newer driver.

https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/152009/en-us

Before you install, uninstall Geforce Experience. It’s not needed. It is bloatware at best.

When you install, do a clean installation so it clears whatever settings you changed (which may also be causing the problem), and opt out of using Geforce Experience.

I've already tried with just nvidia driver installed (no geforce experience). I also tried performing a clean installation (since I have to uninstall the pre installed nvidia driver.) and not worked either, but I'll give another try.
So, this DDU is not needed? I'm with only windows installed on my HHD, there is only +- 40 GB being used.

DDU is needed. It fully wipes the old drivers, old drivers still on the drive can cause issues.

I thought that since I reinstalled windows 10 (used the option to erase everything, personal files, programs) wouldn't remain nothing in the drive.

Windows auto installs generic drivers upon reinstall.

Do you have some tutorial to do this procedure?

Do you have some tutorial to do this procedure?
Install DDU with the correct version for your OS, open Windows in safe mode with all wifi and ethernet off, ooen DDU, click uninstall and restart, your PC will restart, reenable wifi, go to Nvidia's website to clean install drivers, restart, done.

Have you solved this problem? I'm having the same issue.
Wow this was ages ago. Unfortunately I did not manage to fix the issue, I took the GPU out and gave the PC to my dad to use as a media/web PC. A friend of mine tested the GPU and said it worked fine so I sold it and saved up for a new PC.
But as I became more PC savy over the years I would recommend you to
1. Clean the PC of dust
2. Reseat every component
3. Reinstall Windows and drivers.

I wish you the best of luck.

In the end it was a hardware problem. Somehow the fan was not in the correct position and was not cooling the GPU properly. Thus it was permanently damaged, now its restarting from time to time. Thank you all for the help.
