GTX 1060 3gb
Does anyone game with one of them? What do you think about it? Should I just spend the extra and get the 6gb? Looking to use it for BFV and BO4

Would look at 1060 6GB or 1070 8GB
nothing lower.

16GB RAM and an SSD really helps.

Spend the extra cash to get the 6gb version.

That 3gb card will go obsolete in no time.
The common wisdom is to not buy into the 3G version these days unless you get it for some serious discount not available for the 6G.
1050ti has more vram
and good for 1080p at mid+ settings

if you want to run 1080p at high+ setting, go for the 1060 6g
Stick with the 6GB

While the 3GB is better performancewise compared to a 1050 Ti, you'll lose out if you dont have over 8GB RAM to make up for the lack in VRAM in games that can utilize 3GB+.

when Maxing your VRAM you'll start to use Physical RAM to make up for it which is where having over 8GB comes in handy.

GTX 1060 3GB is better (often significally) in ALL games which I know. No single exception.
I would go for the 1060 6gb or 1050ti, 1060 3gb is heavily limited by its vram

i didnt say 1050ti was better than the 1060 3g

1050ti is a great gpu at the $150 price range
1060 3g at $200 isnt worth it
spend the extra $50-60 for the 6g ver

1060 6g is not just more vram, the 3g ver has parts disabled
cores and tmus, making it a weaker card

1060 6g should have been named a ti or the 3g a le or similar, since they are not the same performance even at lower vram usage

Depends what your budget would float.

GTX1060 3GB isn't just about vram the card is cut

Chopped 1060 ^^^.

Ps, tbh the GTX1070 is a great card for maxing 1080p vs the Rx 580 / GTX 1060.

No doubts, he should look at RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti. Nothing lower. Raytracing is the future. He has no money? Oh, damn, I did not think about it.

Just to add, I got the 1060 3gb and while amazing in some games, in others the lack of vram made me unhappy with it. Really struggled with resident evil 7, batman Arkham knight etc so popped it in my backup pc and bought a 1070ti.

How you liking your 1070ti?
Can't really go wrong with 1070 Ti since its basically GTX 1080 performance
I have the 3GB 1060 and while it has performed exceptionally well in almost every game, it suffers in DCS World due to the Vram limitation. It's the only game so far that I've had the need for more than 3GB (check with Afterburner). Your resolution matters. DCS also needs 16GB ram and has to be installed on an SSD or it will stutter at high. No other game I've seen has such steep requirements though.

I game at 1080p, and a 1060 is more than enough. I'm handing this card over to my son soon, and am only really considering the 1070 or RX 580 8GB as upgrade options (unless the RTX 2060 magically surfaces before Xmas at 1070 prices).

At 1080p I'm leaning towards the 580 card as the 1070 costs over $200 CDN more right now, and I think the 580 will see some large price cuts in the coming months. I haven't had an AMD card since the R1600X (I think?), but it may be the (much) better deal. Well see how low a 1070 gets I guess.

Yes, I can afford a 1080Ti, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. This is just for video games!
