Upgrade FX 8350 to i7 3820?
I want to upgrade my FX 8350 to an i7 3820, and I have no clue of it's even worth it. I have a good deal to buy the i7 3820 with a Mobo. I run 1070's SLI so maybe the GPU would benefit? All I do Is play games. So I was hoping someone could show me if it's even worth the money to upgrade to It?

No. Buy a 7700k or ryzen 5/7.
Yes it would be better than the FX, but it should be VERY cheap as it's used, old tech, locked CPU etc.

I dont have $600 to upgrade to a brand new setup. i Got a super good deal on the 1070's and thats the only reason i have them.

Well its more of a trade for it, but would i actually notice the performance difference?
Yes, depending on games. For games like The Division for example which is basically run exclusively on GPU the increase would be minimal, but most other games you would see bigger increase. Arma 3 or GTA V would see big increase.
Its definitely worth it
As long as the motherboard you get is decent and supports SLI

That i7 is a bit better than that age old crappy FX and should offer less of a bottleneck with the 1070s.

and it may be old tech, but not as old as that FX :) or at least not as crappy

Swapping for it prob be a good deal. Not sure how much increase ull get though.
The FX 8350 is a 4 core x 2 threads cpu with single/multi thread scores of 15 and 90.

The i7 3820 is also a 4x2 with scores of 19 and 90.

So there might be a small gain in fps due to the better single thread score..

Would it be worth it? This depends on other factors such as the fps you are getting now, your monitor specs, cost of the upgrade etc. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

You should overclock if you have sufficient cooling. It's very easy these days and is basically free performance just sitting there :-)

every now and then i turn on game boost and it goes up to 4.8 but 99% of the time i run it on stock just because it runs every game smoothly.

Go for ryzen 5 1500x
It might be time to sell one of the 1070's to get a more modern cpu and motherboard to support it.

Unless you need both 1070's as you are playing 1440p or above that is but sli can be very hit and miss for a lot of games so it may not be worth keeping.
