HELP: I got some new RAM sticks and my windows doesn't see them
To be clear, it seems to think I have my old RAM stick still, which is 4GB. Both my new sticks are 8GB (they're twins). My computer does boot up but doesn't acknowledge extra memory... what can I do?
I run on Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3240 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Windows 10 Home x64

Remove your old 4gb stick, only use the new ones.

Make sure you install them in the correct slots (usually 2 and 4) for dual channel.

Does the bios detect them and the correct size?
Try them 1 at a time.
Try them in different slota

I only have 2 slots and I removed the old 4GB already. it's a ghost =_= it's lying on my desk but my machine thinks it's there.

no, bios doesn't see them. bios thinks it's only 4096MB (or something like this) too and one slot seems to be disconnected - computer won't boot with a single 8GB in it - one slot works and it's the one my old 4GB USED TO be in. the computer wakes up fine with 8GB in that one but sees only 4GB

What motherboard do you have?

Does the BIOS think it's 4gb or does Windows?

mlother board may not su[pport the ram you bought

check on crucial.com to see what ram your main board supports and max available ram

you can also check via your motherboard manual

i have seen many Dell or HP system not support more then 4 gig ram sticks per slot

some only support 2 gig sticks

if your unsure what motherboard you have get and use
CPU Z

New ram if the mobo supports it and should check the mobo site ''Qualified Vendor List'' for ram/dram and not go by what a manufacturer sites says- they only hope to sell.. New ram its best to clear Cmos and boot into bios and set it up like you normally would and check and make sure the memory is at defaults like proper timmings and voltage- then reboot.. Some ram runs at diff voltages etc.. Also if me and do get it running I would run memtest86 at least 8 hours and see that you get no fails.. It will stress the memory- if its no good you will find out and can return it..

Sometimes a mobo can act stupid if new memory or vid card and have to clear Cmos.. Most will tell yah if a new CPU its best to do a fresh OS install.. Also for furure ref. many people will not try to help you if you do not post full details about your hardware and what memory exactly you are trying to use.. Its not a brag its just needed facts..

I can't find the "pins" to clear CMOS... I looked long and hard back when my graphics card was breaking down... removing battery didn't work that time either. some weird method including a cypher using both hard reset and shutdown button did it then but I can't remember it, it was complicated

Remove the coin battery from the Motherboard.
Disconnect main power cable from the power supply.
Press and hold case power button for 15 secs.
CMOS is reset, reinstall the coin battery and power cable and try the system again.
Try the old 4GB in DIMM slot #2 and see if the BIOS sees it properly.

List the Model# of your new RAM; as it might just not be compatible.
