I was going to upgrade my 1060 to 1080 next week, now it costs more than 1080ti which is also sold out. Interesting because literally week ago all these gpus had normal prices and were available.

mostly shortage of ram chips for vid cards

price went way up as they refit for the next GPU's

so all thats left is what is already built and packaged will command a higher proce till the refit on the memormy foundry places are done and next gen cards are being made

so yea places will price gouge the cards they have in stock ..so it's not all just miners

pascal will be over taken by Nvidia volta with new ram chips and new GPU's

so they can compete with the next gen AMD GPU's ..this happens every couple of years

The 1050 ti is affected aswell. It's out of stock everywhere and the few placed that do have it in stock sell it for $200+.

not if you bought at the right time .. got my 6 gig gigabyte GTX 1060 last march at my local microcenter ..was only $239

at that time they had already sold out of the 1070 and 1080 series , and had the best prices on the 1060 GPU's as well as the intel kaby lake CPU's

but yes there will be a shortage of the pascal GPU's why we wait for Volta ..and whatever AMD brings to the table .. i did see a bit posted on hardocp avout new video ram coming

Bitcoin has rocketed in value, which also effects all the other crypto currencies and mining, so now even more GPUs are being bought for mining

Retailers are taking advantage of a shortage. Supply and demand. Not sure what is driving the shortage but it is defintelly an issue. Retailers seem to be very low on GTX 1080tis for example. I am upgrading in March and I have been doing some preshopping and noticed they are out of stock at a lot of places including NewEgg for the Asus ROG 1080ti I am interested in. A few places do have them but they want over $1100 about $300 more than what they where selling for just a month ago.

It's a combination of stores selling out stocks for the holiday and gpu coin mining rising $300-500 in value.

The last half-year has been an AMAZING time to buy the Xbox One rather than a PC I guess ..

The 1050 Ti was hit as well. In my local shop, the crappy Gainward model is the only bellow 200€.
The better, high clocked MSI and ASUS version are like 60€ more as they where when I bought my current PC and EVGA is completly sold out.

Seriously after the crazy RAM prices, they are now killing gamers with GPU prices? Nvidia forgot again that gamers have put them into the position where they are now, not the greedy miners.

There is literally nothing they can do to stop miners from purchasing products. They're based inside a country who has a free economy. By intentionally alienating those who want to mine will get them in trouble as there is nothing illegal about it.
