"This app can't run on your PC" Windows 10
So I got a new PC, installed Windows 10 on it and i downloaded Chrome and Steam. But whenever I try to launch the installer Windows gives me a pop-up saying "This app can't run on your PC". I searched around a bit and found a few solutions but none worked (Making a second admin account, Enabling developer mode, Disabling SmartScreen, Launching the installers while Windows is in Safe Mode)

have you run the windows updater? the only thing i can think of now is that your running an old version of windows 10, which could be possible if the ISO you used to install windows 10 had an old version on it.
i think the newest version is 15063 which is the creators update

you can download a new ISO here and theres an option to download the creators update if you dont have it already

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

you can use the new ISO to reinstall windows again if need be

I just got this error this error today. (Nov 11, 2022) This is my Windows 10 desktop that I have been using for years with Steam. I get a red popup saying "This app can't run on your PC". This is a windows popup, not from the app, not from the virus checker. I have the latest Windows 10 updates installed. I uninstall steam, downloaded the installed from steam, and reinstalled it. I will not load. Any help? None of any of the above suggestions help. None of the generic answer you see on a google search help.

Edit: the "red" part of the popup is related to my color scheme, not the nature of the message.

Honestly, you should not be getting these messages with those apps. What security programs do you have? Did you enable some anti-exploit settings?

In general, one should not disable security settings if one doesn't know what the deal is. I got the same message you're reporting so this is what I did temporarily to allow an app's SDK to install for testing purposes. Once it was removed, I re-enabled Memory Integrity. This may or may not work for you, though.

That said, open Windows Security UI, then Device Security section. Click the link under Core Isolation and check if Memory Integrity is toggled to ON. If it is, toggle to OFF, restart machine and see if you can open either one. If so, I would see if there are other security settings or programs which may be interfering. If not, then it's guess-work.

Did you try installing Steam as admin i.e. with elevated privileges ?

usually such a message is shown when trying to run very old applications or 16bit on 64bit Windows and etc.

That's what's strange, though. Chrome and Steam install and run fine without Admin. elevation. Plus, I have Memory Integrity enabled. What made me suggest disabling it, though, was I got the same message OP reported when trying to install some security app that shall remain nameless.

You may be onto something, though. One can search this issue and see what's out there. Here's something--suggesting to run the software architecture that matches that of your operating system.

There's plenty of other threads on this also.

Most likely the installed Windows is 32 bit and trying to install 64 bit applications . The OP might double check this . Also if RAM is capped at 4GB , it would be 32bit Windows .
