How do these gpu's/proccessors compare?
Im thinking of getting a new machine, in the way of desktops, im thinking of a gtx 1050ti 4gb with a ryzen 7 1700. My other option is the rx 580 4gb with a ryzen 5 1400.

How will both of these builds do in game and which is better?

EDIT: I live in canada. Monopoly Money. :(

EDIT: I HAVE CHOSEN

Gtx 1060
ryzen 5 1600

What if I were to go the intel route and get an i5 around the same price as the 1400, how would that pair with the 580?

If your mate is selling you Rx 580 over $280, get a GTX 1060 6gb. There are some at sweet prices on Newegg.
Im getting a better price than that :)

and will easily go toe to toe with ANY i7 Intel has, period.
Sorry, but that is a lie.

Well I have them running side by side all day, so I'm fairly content with my suggestion, say whatever you wish.

You seem to argue every single thing I say do, or that AMD is crap; why input yourself at all if that's how you really feel. Feeling have zero to do with anything in these conversations, period.
ALSO, just to let everyone know, im dealing with canadian currency, so, alot of things are kind of stupidly priced for me :)

Whats your budget for the Desktop build ?

Around 1000 canadian dollars, some things im paying extra for and some things im getting deals from friends for. I dont see how knowing my budget is going to help all that much, but there you go :) I also kind of have my heart set on certain components.

he's using a 1400 and a 480, but this should give you a ballpark of what to expect.

Here ya go both systems compared....

http://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder/Custom/S0-M247488.188434.200373.12444.92132vsS0-M263821.268793.200373.12444.92132?tab=CPU

In this setup the 1400 / 580 system is still 50 british pounds cheaper than the 1700 1050ti.

Take 1/2 of the 50 pounds or dollars and get the 1600. I have a FX8350 w/RX470 and it is fast enuff in everything at 1080 & very hig settings. If anything I am gonna get a new AMD graphics card next spring.

ANyway the site userbenchmark is awesome. millions of PCs archived. Put 1 together & u see how it really runs/ran.

Even if yta get the 1400 it is 20% or more faster than mine & the 8350 is fine. An overlocked 1400 competes with an I5 that is 75$ more, anyway good luck.
I'd try to aim for:

AMD R7-1700
Aftermarket Cooler like Noctua AM4-ready
MSI B350M MORTAR or ASUS X370 PRIME
2x8GB DDR4-2666
M.2 SSD + SATA 7200rpm HDD
GTX 1060 6GB or better
Win10 64bit

the r7 1700 paired up with the gtx 1060 6gb only leaves a bit less than 200 on my budget. That's just a tiny bit out of my price point.

I would go for 1600. If you're an enthusiast and can afford a better GPU than Fury X / 980 Ti or 1070 then go with Ryzen 7 1700 and a high end cooler. If not you're wasting your money, CPU does not boost fps in game as much as GPU.

For gaming the 1400 is a lot faster than any FX, not 20%. 1600 is even better and "future proof". 1400 comes with a crappy little cooler (stealth), not enough for Overclocking. 1600 comes with Spire which goes a lot better.

Any i5 would be much better than R5 1400. As a rule of a thumb avoid AMD quadcores. They still better than Core i3, but who buys i3 for the games nowaday? Everyone choose Pentium which has sligthly lower gaming performance, but one great advantage - it costs only USD 80.
But if you can afford Ryzen 1600 or 1600x, both are brilliant CPUs. They compete with i5-7400 and i5-7600k respectively and despite Ryzen has lower gaming performance (in most games insignifically lower), it MUCH better in almost all modern content creation apps. If you going to start streaming, choose Ryzen.

How is the i5 7500 for gaming?

I think I've decided which build im going with. Thanks everyone :)

You don't need Ryzen 1700. Believe me, that is pure trash for gaming. It costs more than i7-7700k, but much worse it.

not true. fps isn't as high as 7700k, but certainly not trash.

I mean price/performance ratio. You can buy Ryzen 1600X and get the same FPS in all games. Why should anybody pay more?
