Phantom Controller

I am trying to use my Xbox 360 wired controller, that I've used for a while and its the only one I have ever used and now its saying I have a second controller thats not my wired. And when trying to identify it nothing happened. Now its showing my controller is second player. How to I remove the phantom?

Shutdown the PC. Unplug the Xbox controller. Boot the computer up and go into device manager. Remove the entry for the Xbox controller and make sure the drivers are uninstalled. Shutdown the PC. Plug the Xbox controller back in and boot the computer up. The device should be there when Windows recognizes new hardware.

I only have the one original software showing up in my device list. do I delete that one? I currently do not have the controller plugged in if thats any help.

I tried your fix and it didn't work, its still showing up on steam without my controller plugged in.

So delete it from Steam, very simple. Or simply disable controller support in Steam, then relaunch Steam.

I have done both. it has not changed. It even was still there after reinstalling Steam!

i got mine to work. i have an xbox 360 controller and a xbox 360 Phantom controller. my real xbox controler is now a Generic X-input Copntroller. you need to get the it to be that and set check the box that says Generic Gamepad Configuration Support. i think this makes it so that the generic brand controll is given first priority when playing a game with controller support.

By Steam's definition; if it is not PS4/XBO/Steam Controller; then it IS generic; even Xbox360 just uses DirectInput or XInput to function, nothing else.
