Hdd picking
Does it matter what brand the hdd is? Im looking at a cheap 1tb 7200 rpm hdd, but its from toshiba, does it reaply matter what brand the hdd is, is it any different from a western blue caviar 1 tb 7200 rpm hdd?

All HDDs are more or less the same. I prefere to stay away from Toshiba (mainly because I hate their laptops). As long a you are buying a modern HDD it doesn't matter all that much. The cheaper Toshiba drive is slower because it has half the cach compared to a cheap WD blue.

Yes the quality and performance matter. Toshiba isnt bad but not a major player anymore. The safest 2 bets are WD and Seagate.

Quality doesnt just mean how fast it is but also how good the memeroy quality is. I had cheap HDD's that broke down after 2 month and lost all data on it. Also it means how quiet the HDD is. A WD Black (that best to go for in gaming computers imo) is not just fast and absolutly great quality but it also is real silently. I remeber the old HDD that I still could hear in the enxt room and with the peep when powering on.

Is this for an OS or for storage / game drive.

1TB drives are like you say pretty much the same at 7200rpm, after 3TBs drives start vary more.

Ps, nothing wrong with Toshiba it's much the same as Seagate a more budget friendly drive, I've been using a 3TB Toshiba for gaming over a year now and I'd say it's a little better speeds than Seagate 3TB.

WD black HDDs make much more noise then most other HDDs.

It may differ per model but most reviews online for multiple different WD black drives point out that the WD black HDDs are quite loud under load.

I've got 3 and at times they do make more noise than seagate for sure and wd blacks run hotter.

WD doesn't run any hotter than others; if so its cause you have zero airflow over it.
I have a stack of WD Blacks in all my systems; my SSD runs around 34-36*C
The WD Blacks peak at around 40*C, big deal.

Look at WD Black, Purple
or Seagate FireCuda; pretty much all the other cheaper consumer drives are crap.
Get an SSD for your OS.

I have over 200 games on Steam and I am fine with 1 tb.

Well # of Games never matters; its their size.

But yea if the OP is content with that, sure WD Blue is fine, long as it's the 1TB 7200rpm; all the other Blue are just "Green"

And in another Thread you stake that 500Gb is enough. And there WD Cavier Blue with 7200rpm and 2TB space.

For most user 1tb is enough.

I do not understand people who install all their Steam games and need 6tb because of that.

Blue is 500GB and 1TB; thats all; the rest of Blue are all 5400rpm Green drives.

I just asked if 1TB was enough, just a question.
