i7 + 970M should still last quite a good while still.
If you don't have already, get 16GB RAM and SSD, and Win10 64bit
This is why we suggest Desktops for Gaming; when the main specs are decent (like CPU) usually your fine for twice the life of any Laptop; then when Games demand more, upgrade the GPU.

OMG, no most can last easily that 50,000 hours no problems
Every PC I've built has lasted at least 5+ years no problems.
You didn't read much of that link did you.
Personally, I don't like buying new games because of that - they cost more, offers less, and demanding very powerfull (expensive) hardware.
Get your head out of the clouds, boy! ;)
see the graph in the middle of the page..........
light office work ( using MS OFFICE) ---------------------------------------------57 years.
light gaming---------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------18 years.
heavy gaming ( like CRYSIS series, see the photo ) ----------------------- 5.7 years.
always running at 105 degree celsius---------------------------------------- 5000 hours ( 6 months).
And as you have said, that time frame is applicable only for best quality ASUS Motherboards.
Means in normal motherboards, one can expect only half of the Durability.
they made that temperature artificially in the lab for durability test.
You're not getting; it a TEST!!!!!!!
It's not normal operations.
By the time that happens, it'll be 5+ years usually and you'll be lucky to actually have some Laptops hold up that long before things break or burn up.
