Just got an MSI gtx 1080 TI
i looked at benchmarks for gta v for this card, at 1080p it got 80-90 fps, why is it thay i get 60-80. same with watchdogs 2. the benchmark said 70-90, and in getting 60-70. any reason for this?

also i had an EVGA gtx 970, before my 1080 ti, and idk if in some ganes i can tell a difference between my old gpu and new one.

What's the rest of the system?
GPU's don't run in a vacuum, the whole system + settings helps determine what performance you get. Check all the specs of the PC used in the benchmarks vs yours, and use the same gpu/game settings.
i have an i7 4790k ( never oc'd as i dare not risk it ), 16gb ram, 650w psu and idk what else.

^^ is what i have, and all i know is the benchmark pc had an i7 of some kind

Nothing risky about overclocking a cpu designed to be overclocked. Nonetheless, start by monitoring the temperatures while gaming to see if any of the components are throttling. Anything higher than about 80C on the GPU causes it to slow down. Make sure your fans and filters are working/clean. If temps are fine, then use DDU to reinstall the graphics drivers.

Also, make sure the system you're comparing it to is running the same resolution and graphics settings as you are.

yeah on watchdogs 2 it was the same settings, idk about gta though. but if i dont oc my cpu, out of curiosity, is it still good enough for my new msi gtx 1080 ti? and for my graphics drivers, i use geforce experience, wouls using DDU affect it?
Yep a stock 4790K is still one of the best gaming CPUs even if you don't overclock it. For the drivers, DDU is just an Uninstaller that makes sure the old driver is gone. After using it, you'll install the latest Nvidia drivers. Personally, I just install the driver and physx.
a 1080 Ti is geared towards 4K, and even 1440p

If you arent using a monitor resolution its designed to be used for you are bottlenecking your system as its not being used to its full potential.

And buddy.. seriously.. Using GFE for that system is just plain dumb imo.
If you use it for shadowplay thats one thing, but if you actually use it for Game settings then you are probably screwing yourself.

GFE comes with its own problems, get rid of it and manually set game settings.

And yes, using DDU in safe mode would be a start.

i dont use gfe for settings, i just use it as an easy way to install drivers, and yeah i am usng it for 1080p as i didnt know bottlenecking on lower res' was a thing. from buying the 1080ti, i barely have enough money for a higher res monitor. plus it wasnt exactly long ago i got my 1080p monitor.

how major is the bottlenecking if i continue to game at 1080p, like what do you think the frame differences would be when comparwd to 1440p or above?

and from my (lack of knowledge in pc's) i assume, as more graphically demanding games come out, will my cpu bottlenecking be less and less due to more of my massive gpu's is being used up even at 1080p?

massivr gpu's power*

Well your CPU isnt a bottleneck at all and wont be, its perfectly capable of handling that GPU and intense games.

The thing with that GPU is as its more up to the task for resolutions above 1080p, GPU usage may be lower, lower GPU usage generally means somewhat lower performance.

Now dont get me wrong, that whole PC setup is perfectly fine for any game you throw at it, its just better suited for higher resolutions is all.

As for GFE, even only using it for Drivers is a waste as even IT can cause issues when installing drivers over another.

So my suggestion would be
Download the Latest NVIDIA driver
Download DDU and Clean uninstall the drivers in Safe Mode, DDU will do all the work, accept the turning off automatic windows driver updates if it asks, it'll help avoid issues when installing NVIDIA drivers in the future.

Then after the PC is restarted install the driver via CUSTOM INSTALL
Untick everything but PhysX, nothing else need be selected, not even GFE.
-

Part of your problem, aside from the resolution, is most likely from over installing drivers and using GFE to do it, using DDU will clear out any such issues caused by GFE and installing drivers that way.

Note:
You dont have to install a new driver every time one is released
Unless a driver SPECIFICALLY fixes something, or improves performance for games you play theres not much need to update.

ah ok ty, triuble is though, my friend who has as regular 1080 says he gets the same frames as me on forza horizon 3, gta and watchdogs haha

but as games become more graphically demanding, will pc perform better? as more of my gpu's horsepower is being used to run said games?
It'll perform better yeah, depending on how optimized the game is.
a better monitor at some point, 1440p at the least would make it better off though.

But give DDU a try, it should help.

so with my current setup, at max everything if the game is somewhat optimized, what fps would you expect to see me get? barong in mind i get like 50-80 in watchdogs 2 with the ultra preset on
You should not be running a low res like 1080p on a GTX 1080 Ti; it makes zero sense.
You can't apply a high enough load to such a high end GPU when it's something like 1080p; cause such a GPU is capable of 4K / 60 FPS; so you should play on around 1440p, minimum to get the most out of that GPU.

if i had the money i would maybe get a 1440p monitor

but i got this as it sempt the most future proof thing i could get with the money i had so thay i hopefully wont have to upgrade for a good like, 3-4 years

Until you can afford a better monitor i suggest using DSR for either 1440p or 2160p.
A 1080 ti is a total waste of money for 1080p gaming as you can get more bang for your buck out of lesser cards.
Even a 1080 would of been a much better choice as it would last you the same amount of time but for what? £200 less?
