Need Help With New Monitor
Hi All,

Sorry if this isn't the place to post this but i need some advice for a new monitor i am considering purchasing, as my current monitor is a Samung Syncmaster 2033SW that
isn't even full HD lol (yes i know)

As such my monitor is obviously severally restricting the capabilities of my gaming rig.

With some research i have narrowed down my choices to two possible options, however i am open to more suggestions if they are better alternatives out there.

the monitors i have shortlisted are

1. LG 34GN850-B
https://www.centrecom.com.au/lg-34gn850-34-219-g-syncadaptive-sync-curved-ultragear-gaming-monitor

2. MSI Optix MPG341CQR
https://www.centrecom.com.au/msi-optix-mpg341cqr-34-144hz-adaptive-sync-hdr-curved-gaming-monitor

My budget is $1700 AUD.

I would prefer an ultrawide monitor as i heard they are unbeatable for immersion.

PC Specs
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900x 12c at 4.2ghz
GPU: Nvidia RTX2080ti 11gb asus rog strix
RAM: G-Skill Trident Z Neo RGB 32gb @ 3200mhz
MOBO: ASUS x-570 ROG Strix
SSD: Samsung 970 Pro 512gb nvme m.2
HDD: 4tb wd black + 2tb wd black
Case: Corasir obsidian 500d rgb se

The LG panel is considerably better because it has an IPS/PLS panel, while the MSI panel has a VA panel.

VA is an absolute abomination that should never be bought for gaming, ever. Fast paced games are pretty much guaranteed to suffer from ghosting on a slow panel, and VA panels are among the slowest. Advertised response times like 1ms only apply to when the screen goes from grey to grey, hence GtG, the actual response time of an IPS panel is closer to 6ms, while most VAs are closer to 10ms. TN panels are around 4ms most often but they can be pretty ugly.

I didn't know this pays to look into actual response times thanks :)
Not really. The response times listed on monitors aren't even real.

60hz is about 16-18ms
144hz is around 6-7ms

LG is better choice for sure if you want to go for ultrawide.

IPS is also better for off angle viewing and color reproduction. They used to get a bad rep for backlight bleed but that has been resolved in most cases.
For that kind of money you better look at LG :34GK950G or the 38GL950G

Both are of higher class than the one you listed, both have gsync, the 38 inch one has 3840x1600 res (a cropped down from 16:9 UHD panel)

Yeah, that will be a major plus esp for ultrawide curved monitors.
How bad is the IPS Glow?
is it extremely noticable and off putting?
or is it something you can ignore?

i had a look and sadly
34GK950G has been discountinued
and the 38GL950G is $3000 in Australia thanks to the "Australia Tax" where we pay around 50% more for electronics than you do in America :(

This is un-true...

You want the best Immersion for your Computer, but the problem is...

There is no possible way to do this from only 1 setup...

Example 1:

An 8 or 12 Display Setup for a PC,
will be a better immersion for Flying Games, because you could get a feel for a real airplane from this...

1 Display, no matter how Wide, cant give you this

Example 2: An Ultra Wide Monitor might be good in Regular Games... Maybe?

Example 3: Multi-Monitors, can be useful for Streaming, or Multi-Tasking

Example 4: A Curved Monitor may be useful for Motorcycle Games

Ultra-Wide just avoids Distractive Frames Dividing Screens, while improving your Performance Quality to
handle the Experience...

If Ultra Wide is still what you want, then it's still a good way to be immersed, & might look great with some Movies, too...

The Main Poster said, Ultra Wide Displays give the best Immersion...

Their great all around Displays, yes?
But the Best for Immersion? I was just explaining how there is no 1 Setup you can get for the Best Immersion...

Thats all... It only depends on what you plan to use the Display for...
