AIO vs custom loop cooling
What do you use?
I use both depending on the pc but is a custom loop really worth it in the end? yes it looks great but not so much for your wallet. Building a new rig next week but sat thinking is it really worth the hassle and cost. Could just put in a thermaltake or corsair 360 for the cpu and buy the rtx 2080 super waterforce AIO. opinions?

Custom loops allow for the better overall cooling and would endless possibly to customize it.

Yea it's not for cheaper systems or smaller wallets.

An AIO-LC can be ok, as long as the user.understands the limits of it and that it will require total replacement every few years.

aio is good enough for the cpu or gpu if its attached

custom loop can cover everything, cpu, gpu, vrms, ram, sb ect... with custom tubing and fluids

general rule a 120mm rad for each single cpu/gpu at stock, add another 120/240mm to the rad total for each of those oc level
stock-mild/good/max

Get an Arctic Freezer II - Best AIO in every class (uses a thicker Rad). Perfect option for single CPU cooling.

As otehrs have said, custom loop if you want more than CPU and GPU (which with AiO means two AiO's not shared).

Cheapest way to liquid cool cpu and gpu is by getting a decent AIO-LC for your cpu and buying a hybrid gpu, like what is available from Corsair or EVGA as far as a Hybrid water + air cooled gpu goes.

Or depending on markets, getting a blower syle and kracken-G12'ing it with a cheap but decent AiO.

Yes, taking a blower style gpu and removing the cooler cover and the heatsink and installing an AIO from NZXT or CORSAIR is also an option. Just remember you will need a mounting bracket meant for gpu when using them. Review official makers website to see what's available for doing that before buying elsewhere. The end result will be an AIO pump on the gpu core, with its rad and fan most likely mounting to your rear case fan exhaust placement. The blower fan will remain on the gpu to remove heat from the vrms

Thats the G12.

NZXT made it specifically as a universal AiO mounting bracket for (most) Geforce and Radeon cards and (most) AiO's not just theirs. Comes with extra heatsinks and an active fan for cards that need it.

Was highly tempted to go that way with my blower vega as its about to hit end of warranty but went Morpheus II instead...

Raijentek just put out a new model similar that if for the RTX and RX5k lineup!

Watercooling is risky and not worth it in either regard. If an AIO ruptures your parts will not be covered, especially either due to user negligence or over the warranty period.

Oh right, yes I forgot that actually replaces the stock gpu blower fan, thanks for pointing this out. Yes once you install this bracket and fan, you can pretty much pick from most cpu based AIO and install it onto the gpu.

You do realize in many cases the liquid alone wouldn't usually harm anything, right...

And if your gpu dies, simply reinstall all the original cooler parts and RMA it under warranty

Custom loop is expensive at first then gets cheaper, when I do a new build for myself I just reuse all my fittings with new Orings and reuse my pump, and radiators. All I’m buying are the blocks and the hard tubing ($150-200).I would not recommend doing a custom loop unless you just really want to, more of a hobby for me. You could always just do a custom loop for CPU then later down the road add the GPU to the loop.

Decided in the end to go AIO for cpu @ 360 corsair H105i with 3 QL fans, for the GPU RTX 2080 super waterforce AIO which will be taken from a 240 to a 360 rad. After looking at a hardline again it was one of those how high is the sky problems, I spend and spend alot of money. My last custom loop was a resident evil setup with dual pump and helix tubing, OLED RGB cpu block, SLI block link. I know i paid 400 just in fittings (custom) so decided to put that money toward a new larger curved monitor.

Started this thread because was concerned my CPU was overheating, control dial flashing red indicating im running at very high temps. Bad sensor feed, hammering the cpu with B-V for a couple hours on max settings and then checked my other sensor and 38 degrees.

True about the costs. Alot now, little over time to maintain. But also there is much more time involved as well. But with any AIO-LC you will be replacing the entire unit it every 3-5 years most likely.

IDK, perhaps I have just gotten lucky, but I am on year 5 going into 6 on a used first gen launch eddition H100i thats now approx 7+ years old. Still cooling my 4.8Ghz 4790K well.

I am hopefull to get at least 6 years from the freezer 2.

The ongoing maintinance of a custom loop is the killer for me. Having to drain and refill so regularly. For such high regular maintinance I would rather a submerged minnerial oil PC ;)

You probably have one of the newer H100, even if it is that old. You don't have the original release version though because all the original release Corsair AIO didn't have the "i" with usb monitoring.

All the original corsir aio also had either a 2 year or 3 year warranty. Not 5 like they do now.
