Which HDD would you choose out of these two?
I'm stuck between a Toshiba P300 3TB (HDWD130UZSVA) or Seagate BarraCuda 3 TB (ST3000DM008)

Seagate looks to have better benchmark results but cost £80! and Toshiba one is £60-70.

Thoughts? I look at the reviews and both have mix, but Seagate got more to read through. Apparently, Toshiba makes quite a bit of noise which I don't care about because I always have headphones on most of the time when gaming.

What's your experience been with the two brands? I currently have a WD Blue 1TB and it's been going fine. Ideally, I would be purchasing another WD 3TB but they don't have one in Blue. No clue what colour they use now if it's changed.

Both will be decent and neither seem to use SMR, so yu can reasonably go with either. Personally I would go with the seagate but its a wash either way.

neither

3tb have had a higher fail rate tahn 2 and 4tb combined

go for seagate or wd 2 or 4tb with 64+mb cache

If you opt for 2 or 4 check to see if its SMR if that matters to you...

Cheaper range Toshibas tend to be slower and more noisy, if I had to pick from only those two I would take Seagate, personally never had problems with Seagate drives and have one of theirs inside my PC right now.
If you want WD you could go with WD Gold 4 TB, actually better drive then Blue.

Damn! Seagate 3TB just went out of stock as I was about to add it to the basket. I'll see if I need a 2TB or 3TB whilst I wait.

Thanks ppl.

looking into it, one user says higher capacity drives use SMR such as 4TB one. I will be mainly using the HDD for gamnig so...and I might as well get a 2TB at this point.

Neither. Toshiba and Seagate are terrible. Pay more and get a WD Gold (4TB). For $161 they're fast and quiet. The large cache will allow you to get more cache hits overall and will take as much punishment as you can throw at it.

WD4003FRYZ they use CMR exclusively as well.
