Steam is a game platform. If you have that open its just to read messages or play games. Doesn't seem like a must to me. It takes 5 seconds to start Steam. Browser also opens in about 3-5 seconds. Seems like hibernate is not needed to me.
it takes about half a minute for me to start steam. steam have to search for updates every time it starts after all. as i am using windows 8.1 i need to use a third party start menu which takes additional time to start. how fast a browser starts depends on how many tabs it have open and i usually have at least 10. then i have core temp which i use to monitor the temprature of my cpu. it is the sum of all stuff i need to start that is the biggest reason i need hibernation.
I guess I am used to my SSD, For me Steam takes no more than 5 seconds and my Browser is almost immidiate regardless of how many tabs are open. Booting my PC from power off takes about 22-25 seconds. I would suggest putting a faster storage device in your laptop and you would not consider it necessary anymore.
SSDs live fast and die hard. it is much better to have a rotating harddrive as those last long. my HP is more than 5 years old and its harddrive is still intact. it got a few bad sectors because i tipped it over when vacuming the sofa however. the fastest harddrive i can fit into my laptop is the seagate firecuda. there is no room for SSDs anyway.
Your not serious are you. SSDs are rated in write cycles and they are in the 100s of millions. A Samsung EVO 850 1TB is manufacturer warrantied for 10 years and is calculated to have a lifetime of 114 years under nornal use. Needless to say your not going to wear one out before it has long since become junk in the garbage dump. I laugh at 5 years..

Also 2 1//2 inch SSDs are not much bigger than a credit card they are 2 1/2 wide and about 1/4 inch tall. Normal laptop drive bay size. They are designed to fit in laptops

If you know how big a sata cable is you can get an idea of how small that is ( 4th picture down )..Like I say not much bigger than a credit card.

i purchased an asus rog where the SSD was burned out just by it being on display in the shop so you are wrong. your foreign measurements makes no sense to me. in my country we used the metric system. SSDs is fairly thin but longer than normal rotating laptop harddrives and as such, does not fit. SSDs also require special harddrive slots specially made for SSDs which is why pcs can fit a number of SSDs(up to 6 in some) and a number of harddrives(usually 2)

Sure you did. Why are you not using that Asus ROG. You go on beliveing what you want. I give up on trying to give you any suggestions. Laptops have a standarized drive bay. Peripheral manufacturers design there hardware to fit in those bays..Common sense.

no, they do not. they are either built for one SSD and one rotating harddrive, two rotating harddrives or just one rotating harddrive(maybe some is also built for one SSD only. not that i have actually had those). please stop trying to lecture me on stuff i am better at than you. back on topic: how can i fix my notepad error?

1- SSD's have come a long way since they first launched, tho the differences in durability is huge and debatable.
2- how is this related to the issue presented on the OP?
it is not, which is why i tried to get back on track with my previous post and yet, you kept derailing it. back on topic: how can i fix my notepad error?
^man, you assume too much, i've been using a Sandisk V300 120GB for about 5years on my Lenovo x220 without any issues (and i format that device every 3-6 months). i'm sure many will tell you similar stories.
if you had a bad experience with them it might have been a falty device or there was something else with that particular set of software running on the device. i've had several spinning disks die on me within 6 months of use, so they are by no means 100% reliable, same with SSD's.

as for your issue. my guess is that you have some issues with the power management driver, hence i sugested you install the version of the Intel Management Engine provided by your device's maker. have you done that yet?

i would also sugest(again) looking into the system logs to find out what is triggering the issue when you resume from hibernation.

To view the system log in Event Viewer

1- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.
2- In the console tree, click System Log.

i have never had såinning disks die within months. they have usually lasted for at least a few years but more often they never break down(they generally get bad sectors though). i had one pc where both harddrives failed but that is likely my fault for striking it with a hammer. my system log is empty. toshiba does not provide that software.
So, you assume that the problem is notepad because when you leave it open you get the problems you mention? Am I correct?

That being said, it's so necessary for you to work with notepad? Can you use another text editor as was already suggested? Really, notepad is like the ie6 of the text editors...
notepad is available by default and i tend to move my documents around for people to read(adult science fiction). it is therefore easier to stick with notepad. notepad is the culprit here because for the last week or so, i have been able to exit hibernation because i close notepad before i activate it.

Well, it is not about the editor but the file type. You can create the same plain text files with any other editor (notepad++ and kate, to mention two) plus getting more advanced edit tools.

In the other hand, as you need to share, and maybe, get some feedback from people you send your work, wouldn't be better to use Writer app from google gsuite? I mean, it works with any web browser, something that is quite standard too.
