I used to use hybernation a lot but not anymore and i just use sleep mode instead. Is there a way for you to shut it down completely and try going into safe mode and then turning off the hybernation from there?
hibernation is my only option because the battery is dead and i disconnect it from the power grid at night. i want to fix the conflict between notepad and hibernation, not disable hibernation.

you can turn hibernation off by opening a CMD as administrator and typing "powercfg /h off", no need for safe mode or the like

as for the OP, might be some driver issues. i would sugest looking at the system logs.
if you could post your system specs (i'm mostly interested in motherboard model, RAM and disk). notepad preventing hibernation is kind of weird. it should prevent shut down if you have unsaved work, but i never heard about it preventing hibernation.

othan than that, it might be hard to guess what's wrong.

Something else is probably amiss. I would try a Windows reinstall.

I believe you have to hit the power button to exit hibernation. Not just move your mouse or something. Is this what you are doing.

it does not prevent hibernation, it prevents my pc from exiting hibernation. of course i push the power button. after that it runs for a short time and then it shuts down(as if the power button is pushed). i have an i7-4700MQ, gtx 770m and 16 gigabytes of ram. the problem only happens when i have notepad running when i initiate hibernation.

I doubt it has anything to do with Notepad. Probably any app would make it do the same thing. Just save your work and shutdown Notepad before going to hibernation.

mobile processor eh? go to your manufacturers website and download their version of the Intel Management Interface and install the "older" version instead of the one Windows installs by default. i used to have that issue with some chipsets and that fixed it for me.

I would stop using Hybernation mode altogether. It is the same thing as Windows 10's "Quick Boot" feature and should only be left on if you are working on a major project that would require you to strart ypour PC up quickly.

hibernation is a must for me because i have a lot of stuff open at once. hibernation therefore helps me start faster with less work. i have intel driver and support assistant and that does not find any cpu drivers. i have both internet explorer, comodo dragon and steam open and the system resumes with them running, just not with notepad running. i am saving my work and shutting down notepad but that causes extra work for me in the morning.

by "notepad" do you mean the one that comes with Windows (i would sugest verifying system files with "sfc" or the like), or do you mean notepad++ or some other?(there might be some issues with plugins in this case)

Edit: also, if thats a company managed laptop, i would sugest letting the IT guy take a look at it.

You realize that is you had a power failure all that work would be gone.

hibernation mode does not require any power, unlike sleep mode. hibernation mode= everything in memory is saved to disk so that power can be turned off. sleep mode= everything kept in memory with pc running at very low power consumption(also available on 3ds).
