Headset/headphones suggestions
Since I recently got myself a SoundblasterX AE-5 in a sale, I am now thinking about getting a decent stereo headset/headphones. Currently I am using my G933 in 3,55mm jack mode on the X AE-5, which is a fair improvement over USB mode, but for some reason it sometimes doesn't give out sound on the right channel, which forces me to switch repeatedly between usb and 3,5mm mode until it returns. So I've decided to get 3,5mm jack stereo headphones as well (or a headset).

I don't really know my way around audio parts, so I would like to ask you guys for some recommendations. Price tag should be no more than 200 Euro.

How about the DT770 Pro 80 ohm[www.amazon.de] and a ModMic[www.amazon.de]...

Usb uses its own chip and driver.
Just plug in via 3.5mm and leave it there. If one channel is not working, chances are it's not plugged in all the way. Perhaps the card is not aligned very well with the slot of your case.
I have the DT990 Pros and the same card. The card definitely can drive the headphones and then quite a bit. The DT990 Pros are SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER treble heavy so i can't recommend those honestly unless you are ok with turning down the highs in the soundblaster software. Sennheiser is probably what I would go after next or if open ear is OK with you, Grado is amazing. You can't go wrong w/ a modmic as well.
Does anyone know if the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 can connect to a game console? From the review vids on Youtube it looks like no is the answer, but I wanted to run it across the community.

Aha! The instruction manual. The instructions get the two adapter cables confused. Game consoles take a 4 pole connection, not a dual TRS connection that is for the PC.

Thanks for that suggestion, I will certainly check it out.

Sorry if I didn't make that part clear enough: it isn't connected via USB at all, battery is empty as well and the receiver unplugged; it has nothing to do with USB sound, and I did not take the 3,5mm cables out, they always stayed plugged in. It's just that for some reason sometimes it doesn't seem to patch the sound through to the right speaker. And it's not an issue with the connectors not being completely plugged in since switching the button from usb/wireless to off/3,5mm repeatedly restores sound on the right speaker at some point. Anyway, that's not why I made this is offtopic.

Thanks for that suggestion. I am actually thinking about trying open headphones; I've only had closed ones so far, but I think I'll give it a try. The only question is whether my wife tolerates me gaming on open headphones. :D

Also thank you both for the idea with the modmic. I was thinking to just get a table mic, but modmic seems like a great alternative.

If you must go closed, then DT770 80 ohm is a good pick. For open I have Sennheiser 598SR, really really good for both sound and comfort. Not sure it is still in production. 599 is also fine. You can look out for deals, those come regularly.

This is actually a pretty solid option, you can't go wrong here.
I found this site for Discord certified headsets. The best are the Alienware IMO.

They are apparently still available at least; more expensive though than the flagship 599s though. Do you happen to know where the difference between the two models is? I couldn't find out from the sennheiser site.

They certainly look comfy as hell and since I have big and unfortunately sensitive ears, that's going to be one of the deciding factors.

The price varies a lot by season and sales. I bought the SR 2 years ago for 105 GBP and 2 pcs of black amazon ed 599s for 95 GBP around xmas time on amazon.co.uk. Now I see them listed at double as that, but almost same price still.

They have almost identical build, without that gray on the side probably could not even tell them apart. The sound felt slightly different, but hard to describe how. (I did not try an ABA test, and am not confident that could tell them apart consistently... ;) I prefer the SR but it might be just because I got used to it (and really only heard the other right out of the box). Maybe it is little more tuned to bass. I'm sure you'd be happy with either. Worst case you can use the generous returns policy.

The SR is wide open, very little isolation in or out. not fit for office use and possibly may leak sound into the mic. Did not test the other for those properties.

The 599 has an ivory version that is way more beautiful.

The card has a dedicated headphone amp. It can drive like 500ohm so getting 80ohm seems like you're not even trying.
Even on board Realtek HD should handle 80ohm stuff. It's above this where a dedicated sound card or usb dac proves helpful.

Certainly looks nice, but since I have only black peripherals for my PC I somehow feel it wouldn't fit. If I'd connect it to Hifi system in a living room, I'd definitely get the ivory version.

Like I said, I don't know my way around audio stuff. What's the thing with with the ohms? Does the higher resistance make the sound more precise since the driver requires more voltage to start swinging?

I guess I'll just order a couple over the weekend and try them out. :)

Alright, thank you all again for your suggestions.

In the end I ordered an Audio Technica MSR7b, a Philips Fidelio X2HR, a Sennheiser 599 (in ivory, because ♥♥♥♥ paying 70 Euro more just to get it in black) and a beyerdynamic DT880 Black SE.

I kept the DT880.

The Sennheisers sound was too wide for my taste. I felt like listening to a band far away on a huge, wide meadow. The MSR7b has great detail on the one hand, while on the other hand somehow has a kind of mushy sound with some songs which might be due to them being closed headphones. Sound felt also very close, but very dynamic as well.

That left the DT880 and the Fidelio which both have a nicely dynamic sound without feeling as close as the MSR7b or as far away as the Sennheiser. Since I honestly couldn't hear any serious difference between the two - the DT880 seems a little more detailed, while the Fidelio feels a little more dynamic, especially considering bass - those were really minuscule and I don't trust my hearing enough to make a judgment with sufficient certainty. I just went with the beyerdynamics since they were made in Germany (Fidelios are made in China like the rest).

All of them were imo decent for gaming. I had no trouble locating sound directions in CSGO with either of them.
