Or better yet turn auto defrag back on and let Windows deal with it in the back ground
I never do that. It probably happens automatically. Try not to overcomplicate things.
I've personally done it only one time since I bought this 2tb hdd arround 6 years ago
works like a charm and no bad sectors (checked with hdd tune)
What about trim?
So it’s okay to use Trim with a SSD. I thought when people said don’t defrag a SSD they meant Trim. I don’t see defrag option with any of my SSD’s, only Trim.
And yes, TRIM should always be enabled, by default it normally is.
TRIM "KINDA" works like defragging but for an SSD, in a sense, but not exactly, and its pretty much instant unlike defragging a HDD. Like, instead of moving files to different parts of the disk on HDD's, un needed data is just deleted instead of moved around.
In short
Yes you can manually TRIM, but you dont need to as it happens automatically
Use Piriform Defraggler.
And before you defrag scrap all the temp and cache data junk from the PC first, such as using Disk Cleanup and CCleaner. And in Steam Client, going to settings and delete temp web cache data and delete temp download cache.
This way you will have less to defrag, as you don't want to waste time defrag gong junk data you would be deleting anyways.
Windows even uses a few tricks such as allocated data for certain files to prevent them fragmentating in the future.
