We still call it BIOS because it would be too much effort to explain that UEFI is the modern replacement of BIOS to everyone. And BIOS just sounds better.
It is common in tech to refer to things using names which are technically incorrect or not very specific.
As for me, Basic Input Output System was rather a term than only a label for a specific software.
Fair enough. Thanks for the edit. ^^
The whole thing got ballistic by that one person naming it BIOS too.
So I probably stick with calling it BIOS too, especially if even the manufacturers of such programs call it like that. XD
It should be considered a new word, just like LED is an officially recognized word in some languages. Because it's considered a word and not an abbreviation it's written in lowercase letters "led". We should put bios in the dictionary also.
Like right now, I see that some people freak out if you call any motherboard program BIOS, just because it's the more common term and even the current labelling by MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, ... is pretty misleading in that case. ^^
May as well as it really would confuse others if you're trying to help them and tell them to go to their UEFI to make changes. Mainly confusing as Motherboard Manufacturers still refer to it as Bios so even it they check the manual it'd say Bios
