If you like the BenQ TN displays and are happy with a slightly larger 27" display consider something like the XL2730 as your main. 2560x1440 @144hz. Pretty much the same besides a higher resolution and physical size.
just did some research and it seems that im stuck with XL2411Z as secondary monitor.
so that means as primary must be 144HZ, dont know if i should stick to TN or choose IPS. if i should go 24" or 27" (im used to 24" for while; + maybe price differences). or if i should stick to full HD or QHD (didnt have pleasure with anything higher res. and dont know about compatibility with my monitor)
I did upgrade to the xl2730 as I liked the xl2411. Being a 2560 x 1440 display it's a nice res to have right now as 4k @ high hz is pretty pricey and not possible for lots of games.
27" is that much bigger than 24". I was cautious at first but it was never an issue. I wouldn't go 27" with a 1080p display though.
Shouldn't have any compatibility issues with other displays. Plus going for a new main display you can look into G-Sync compatible displays too. Can search for monitors here
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/
so thats why i rather switched to looking for new primary monitor, as i need new monitor and those extra € spent on adapter that 99% wont work for 144HZ, can be used as extra on better primary
i dont know what brand i want to go with (dont have prefference, only had this BenQ monitor)
so either 24" with fullHD or 27" with QHD.
now: 1. ISP or TN? 2. dont have QHD problems with older games that only support fullHD? (or how is it done?) - i will be playing some older games and dont want to have many problems with it, so i guess 24" fullHD would be better for me.
(sooo many decisions building and setting up new gaming rig)
Lots of the moitors on the list don't have the G-Sync hardware in them. They are Freesync just like other BenQ displays. That list shows Freesync monitors that have been tested by Nvidia and meet certain requirements. Though I suspect the G-Sync Ultimate actually have the hardware and those are pretty pricey.
While the BenQ XL2730 isn't on that list it is G-Sync compatible. Just not at 144hz. Works fine when refresh rate set to 120hz though.
I only linked the list so you could have a look. Don't need to have G-Sync it's just a nice extra to have and as G-Sync compatible displays don't need the G-Sync hardware they aren't as expensive as true G-Sync displays. Lots of retailers actually list G-Sync compatible in product pages so no need for the list really was just food for thought.
I'd go 27" 1440p just as it's a nice upgrade from 1080p and will be easier to push higher fps and hz as 4k is still expensive even at 60 fps. As for the IPS, TN or VA that's upto you. They each have their pros and cons. Personally I like the TN or VA panels. They feel easier on my eyes. Viewing angle is often mentioned as a issue with TN panels but it your looking straight at them it really doesn't matter. Used to have a xl2411 as a second display at a 45 degree angle from the main display. Viewed it just fine.
Older games will work fine. Even if they were capped at a lower resolution, say 800 x 640 you'd just be running it at that. Same as if you used a 1080p display.

edit: link fixed, $46
and if i had to choose between 100€ on piece of cable vs. 200€ on new monitor that have displayport and 144Hz, then i would choose monitor.
but there are some very good displays with no dp input that it could be worth throwing a little $$ into to keep useful
+ even if i did this adapter thing, thats extra € to solve problem i can solve other way and still keeping budget down.
