It costs "way too much" partly because of the necessary 3M PCIe riser which is necessary to get proper connection to the PCIe slot. Cheaper risers cause many issues.
PCI-E risers don't cost that much. Not much to them. All you need is one that is shielded.
It looks like the Kickstarter was a success, since it convinced you of the purchase.
And the risers are about 20-30 bucks, the price is down to small scale and one man doing the work, you pay for unique boutique work.
3M branded, yeah. But it isn't absolutely necessary.
I've built several small form faactor PC's... even done some wall mounted builds. Even done a desk PC, which was fun. Used plenty of PCI-E riser cables.
You don't NEED it. Plain and simple. You can get some decent ones starting at about $30. Clearly, that guy Dan has you tricked into thinking this. His Kickstarter must be well written.
Funny thing, even if you did NEED this specific 3M cable (you don't), they go for around $70. Not an explaination for the high price of the case at all.
For me, something like the Dan Case is something I know that very few people own and it has its own advantages. There's no way I'd be able to move my old case (Fractal Design Define R4) all over the world easily which is something I do.
Even moving the case from, I dunno, a bedroom to outside is problematic as it's quite big and heavy (13+ kg)
There are no other cases as small as the Dan Case that support high end video cards AND watercooling, something people here seem to miss.
To put it easy for you, a PCI-E riser cable is nothing but a mere extention. You find one with a quality lead, and you have yourself a quality riser cable. Gold plating and shielding is what you need to look for.
I'm not doubting the quality of the 3M cable. My point was that even considering the price of the cable, it does not justify the cost of the case. There are similar cases that can be bought for cheaper, even when considering the cost of getting the 3M cable seperate.
That is great and all, but it still doesn't justify the price. The only reason is for his come up. That part is very clear.
It does look like a nice little case, and that is great that you like it. I'm not dissing it or you. I'm simply making a point on the price.
But what I do find odd is how you are making this thread about it being your computer case... and yet it isn't even released yet. It is on pre-order. This thread is more or less your outlet for your excitement of waiting for a new toy.
I mean have you seen how bad even the new cooler master h500p thermals are at stock? Components need space to breathe and not have fans choked off (in the case of the h500p).
