The impractical part of the Dan case, is the same as with any tiny case, it's severely limited cooling and space for hardware. I mean it's a beautiful looking little case, but it's lack of space , which is admitedly a reason to want it, is the biggest downside to me.

I should say I actually got my case nearly a year ago during cyber Monday sale, the previous year I had seen but missed a Corsair 900d for only £150, and I said if I saw another or the primo on sale I'd jump at it for my next build (the one I am now building was originally planned to be done in January), and I got it for a mere £180 ish, which was a solid saving at the time, I just wish I could get a tempered glass panel :( may have to look into some custom work.

The practicality is the fact that it serves the purpose for limited space. Just because it isn't something that works for your use case, doesn't make it impractical. For your specific use case, yes, but not for someone with limited space.

That said, I still say the price is way too much, especially when there are so many great small form factor cases for a fraction of the cost.
It's unique and does what no other consumer case has ever really done properly.

It costs "way too much" partly because of the necessary 3M PCIe riser which is necessary to get proper connection to the PCIe slot. Cheaper risers cause many issues.

I don't buy much. The first case I bought, almost 4 years ago, Fractal Design Define R4 ended up being way too big to move around.

Dan Case is a huge improvement

Any particular reason you went for a case made by one guy that is clearly overpricing for a come up?

There are many small form factor cases out there. Even some that have a similar, if not exact layout as that one.
It's not overpriced at all, do you know how much good riser cables cost?

PCI-E risers don't cost that much. Not much to them. All you need is one that is shielded.

It looks like the Kickstarter was a success, since it convinced you of the purchase.

3M shielded PCIe risers are very expensive. "All you need is one that is shielded" and flexible. There are no other alternatives to 3M

It's expensive due to its very nature of being small scale and boutique, though that's no bad thing, if you need a tiny case and don't mind the downsides, it's one of the best options, if you can afford it.

And the risers are about 20-30 bucks, the price is down to small scale and one man doing the work, you pay for unique boutique work.

3M branded, yeah. But it isn't absolutely necessary.

I've built several small form faactor PC's... even done some wall mounted builds. Even done a desk PC, which was fun. Used plenty of PCI-E riser cables.

You don't NEED it. Plain and simple. You can get some decent ones starting at about $30. Clearly, that guy Dan has you tricked into thinking this. His Kickstarter must be well written.

Funny thing, even if you did NEED this specific 3M cable (you don't), they go for around $70. Not an explaination for the high price of the case at all.

It even supports CPU watercooling and the graphics card has plenty of space for air to dissapate.

For me, something like the Dan Case is something I know that very few people own and it has its own advantages. There's no way I'd be able to move my old case (Fractal Design Define R4) all over the world easily which is something I do.

Even moving the case from, I dunno, a bedroom to outside is problematic as it's quite big and heavy (13+ kg)

Mind telling me an alternative to the 3M riser that will be flexible and not cause issues? There aren't any, and the Dan Case comes with the riser already fitted.
Monk 2017 年 10 月 20 日 下午 8:41
Yeah, the weight is something I'm jealous of, my build doesn't have fluids or storage in yet and it's probably closing on 30-40Kg lol luckily it won't be moved much.

Even with all the hardware and watercooling, the Dan Case wouldn't even exceed 2kg.

There are no other cases as small as the Dan Case that support high end video cards AND watercooling, something people here seem to miss.

To put it easy for you, a PCI-E riser cable is nothing but a mere extention. You find one with a quality lead, and you have yourself a quality riser cable. Gold plating and shielding is what you need to look for.

I'm not doubting the quality of the 3M cable. My point was that even considering the price of the cable, it does not justify the cost of the case. There are similar cases that can be bought for cheaper, even when considering the cost of getting the 3M cable seperate.

That is great and all, but it still doesn't justify the price. The only reason is for his come up. That part is very clear.

It does look like a nice little case, and that is great that you like it. I'm not dissing it or you. I'm simply making a point on the price.

But what I do find odd is how you are making this thread about it being your computer case... and yet it isn't even released yet. It is on pre-order. This thread is more or less your outlet for your excitement of waiting for a new toy.

330 USD for that case, lol.
Monk 2017 年 10 月 20 日 下午 8:59
It'll be more than 2kg, the GPU alone can nearly weigh that much, but yeah, it'll be light and small, modding g it to have an external 240 rad and fans and watercooling it all would be pretty badass actually and instantly solve the issue of thermals hehe.
I mean have you seen how bad even the new cooler master h500p thermals are at stock? Components need space to breathe and not have fans choked off (in the case of the h500p).

It wasn't meant to be about my computer case.... just asking what everyone else has
