Acceptable GTX1080 Ti temp ?
Hello,

So about 6 months ago i bought the 1080ti, card is performing well, only thing is i'm not so sure if 83ºC is an acceptable temperature.

When i had the 1080ti for a few months i bought a new case + cpu cooler aswell. NZXT Elite s340 and NZXT X42. With the X42 came that piece of software to setup your RGB lighting on the CPU cooler, pretty cool, but...at default settings the program (Cam if i remember ) is giving warnings about my GPU being ''too'' hot.

I did not install any extra case fans.

What would be the best option if i want to reduce the temperature ?
- add additional / replace standard casefans ?
- get GPU cooler (Arctic has some interesting ones, anyone with experience in these things and is there a downside of using one?)
- buy new case with better airflow ?

or just ignore all of it cause 83ºC isn't something to worry about ?

Thanks,

Default regulations in the vBIOS is set to start limiting power factors at 83c. This can be easily overridden or changed with an overclocking program, like Afterburner or Precision.

Are you going to damage the card? No. Max operating temp for the GPU is 91c, which is when it'll start to thermal throttle (unless it crashes first).

Do you have a blower style cooler? Sounds like you do.

MSI armor 1080ti, so i think open air cooler ?

Yeah, open air.

Not a terrible cooler, but not exactly their best either.

I'd try messing around with fan profiles on the GPU. Maybe set a custom fan curve or set a constant speed. You can do this with Afterburner or Precision.

How do you have your case fans setup?

Gotta check the case when i'm home, no idea.

Tried messing with afterburner aswell, fan control is on auto...seems the best thing to do, can ofcourse increase fan rpm, but they get pretty loud.

Try making a custom fan curve and make it a bit aggresive, meaning you have it ramp up faster at a lower temp. If MSI has the armor fan profile anything like their gaming profile, it probably doesn't go very fast even with high temps. The fans will get louder, but you can find a good balance between noise and cooling.

When you get home, test out a custom profile or higher set speed and let me know about how your case fans are setup as well.

Will do! thanks for your information so far.

Is your card stock? That seems pretty high id try fan curve and if that doesnt lower it id say more cooling not the same card but close enough inhave my 1080 oc 120mm water cooler for cpu 3 case fans then the 2 on gpu my card doesnt go above 75-76. Like i said not the same card and im sure ti runs a little hotter but if stock thats high

Edit: normal running temps are 67-72 when im playing

It is stock, not a fan of overclocking at all.

Then i would surely look into more cooling

GTX 1080 Ti is 225w TDP. MSI Armour cooler is rated 250w TDP, just. Should have gone for Gaming X cooler.

Well that's something i can't change now, the stock of 1080 ti was horrible here when they came out and i needed a graphics card. Don't think selling it and buying a 1080ti with better cooler isn't an option.

honestly get a good air flow case around 60 is good.
My AORUS 1080 Ti runs at a peak of 66 Celsius, but it’s not overclocked and has a better cooler.

well neither is mine, and it's pretty clear that it has a better cooler :P.

Could do that yea...but i chose the S340 elite cause of it's looks, small size and the VR connection on the front panel.

but i guess if i want a new case which give me better temps i have to give up having a smaller case.

Anyone knows a good alternative ?
Mandatory things:
- VR connection on front panel, so HDMI and plenty of USB-ports
- Tempered glass panel

Basicly a bigger version of the S340 elite would suffice.

thanks in advance.
Just drill holes above the video card fans in the case side panel if you can.
Makes a huge difference!
