Keyboard Lag every time I open a steam game
I recently formatted my laptop, unfortunately after my format, steam seemed to slow my keyboard input. What I mean by that is I could type a sentence out on my keys and a couple seconds later the sentence would write itself out on screen. Unfortunately this translated into gameplay as well. I would hold the W key for example and my character would move forward, great! however I would release the key and he would keep moving. The strange thing is my pointer and mouse work fine and so do controllers most of the time. The issue only occurs once a steam game is run. For example if I were to shut down and open my laptop it will work just fine, but if I then open a steam game it will cause extreme keyboard lag no matter what applications are open.

If you think it has anything to do with the hardware in the laptop here are the specs:

Operating System- Windows 10
Processor- Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU
Installed RAM- 16GB
Graphics Card- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970m

The laptop itself is a Alienware i7
Thanks in advance for the help!

Since you reinstalled OS, you need to go get all the latest Drivers and install them yourself.
And set the NVIDIA GPU as the Global Default.

Are you monitoring CPU/GPU Temps? As it could be getting too hot and thermal-throttling after launching a game, which would not just affect things like FPS, but also input lagg.

I've downloaded the latest graphics card drivers from GeForce experience if that's what you mean. I have no idea what you mean by Thermal-throttling, however my fps and heat temp. seem to be the same as always, usually a steady 30-60 frames depending on which game.
If you mean keyboard drivers, could you tell me how to download/update them?
Thank!

No, every driver for everything; Chipset, both GPUs, Audio, LAN, WiFi, USB 3.0; etc.
The OS has generic drivers, you want the official ones for what your system has.

Get rid of Geforce Experience if you don't need it; all you need for NVIDIA GPU is "Forceware" and "PhysX" the rest is option, which you choose during the installer by selecting Custom.

Could you send me a link to the download locations and maybe a set of instructions or a guide? Just tell me whatever you need from me and I'll oblige
Sorry I'm kinda bad at this.
Thank you though, you're really helping me out
-Much love

Ok, I will add u in a few, we're about to grab dinner and then I can jump back on for the night.

Did you check for updates via Windows Updates? Make sure those are all done.
Best to do all of that first before doing the Drivers.

Having the exact same issue, CSGO causes a slight lag but PUBG running is horrendous. Battlenet games etc dont have this issue just anything with STEAM. When running any STEAM game any and all applications have the lag.

Trying to run in compatibility mode etc donesnt fix it, all drivers are up to date etc as well.

Yeah. You need graphic driver. Windows might look like graphic driver is already installed, but it is not. So you need to install all driver on website support.

I have had this occassionally as well. I have no idea what caused it but it has always disappeared by itself.

try restarting your steam or even laptop
Bad 💀 Motha Jan 30, 2020 @ 1:21pm
First off, do all Windows Updates til no more are left to do.

Press WINKEY+R
Type WINVER
Click OK
You should be on 1909, if not, update to that, or later if available.

Then you need to download/install all latest official driver for everything. Chipset, gpus, audio, lan, wifi, bt, touchpad; etc

Always ensure to install the touchpad software for your laptop. As this has an option allowing to auto disable the touchpad whenever a mouse is plugged in.

In steam client settings, set to low bandwidth and low performance mode to keep the steam library from hogging your cpu/gpu and lan/wifi

Soon as you go to launch a steam game, X out the Steam window
