It's poo by todays standards and even in the past an HD6850 low level card was and is better.
Ps, if the res is the same as in the article 1440p nothing much lately will play at that res the HD6970m is just too weak. To give you perspective the regular HD6970 2GB is very close to the GTX750ti but you've got the 6970m for mobile so you're basically SOL.
You'll often find desktop CPU's but mobile GPU's in iMacs depending on the model. I believe the latest iMacs however come with RX 5XX PRO GPUs, I have no idea what the PRO means, or if those are even mobile.

Peformance could be between HD 5750 and 5770, which would be around the peformance of a GTS 450.
iMac = All in One Desktop; so yea it basically uses custom laptop parts.
