i7 7700 VS i7 6700k
I plan on gaming at around the 1080p mark and want me system to last as long as possible before I have to upgrade it. I've seen the 6700k combod with a GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 motherboard. While I've also seen the i7 7700 combod with a GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming motherboard. In terms of longevity which would ultimatly last me the longest? A the same time which will give me the best bang for my buck?

They are both about the same but the i7 7700k is newer and slightly more powerfull.

A Intel 7000 series CPU needs a 200 series chipset motherboard. If you are buying a 7700k I am assuming you want to overclock so you should get a z270 motherboard. Any z270 motherboard will work with the 7700k, b250 will also work but then you are not able to overclock.

i7 6700k will be faster than an i7 7700. Especially if you overclock it. I'd get the i7 6700k personally.

IDK how well both CPUs OC but the 7700k is faster out of the box.

I think they are talking about the 7700 non k.

I assumed it was a typo in OP. Why compare a 6700k vs a 7700 non K? Just get a 7700k.

The guy said i7 6700k and i7 7700 (Not k)

I assumed it was a was a typo because of this:

Why get a z270 motherbaord with a non overclockable CPU? Get B250 if you don't OC. Or just spend the extra $20 for the K version you are already spending $300+ on a CPU anyway.

If you made a typo, on the 7700, and meant to say 7700k, then I say they're about the same, just that the kabylake 7700k will be newer and slightly more powerful.

Now if you really meant 7700 vs 6700k, then hands down the 6700k will win, since you can overclock the 6700k, as for the 7700 it can not be overclock, as you need the K version of it, which is only $20+ more.

If you get a 6700k, get a Z170, or Z270 motherboard, if you're getting a 7700k, then you want a Z270 motherboard as the Z170 motherboard need a BIOS update to use Kabylake CPU's. Now again if you really meant 7700 and not the K version, I just get a B250 motherboard, as you wouldn't be able to overclock in the 1st place, and you might as well save a bit of money getting a cheaper motherboard.

About 300mhz different at best (OC).

Kaby Lake is also hotter by 8C on average.

On are we talking normal OCing here or on LN2?

Normal, and possibly LN2. I can't remember the record for Skylake i7-6700k LN2 OC.

Well LN2 much closer

The heading was no typo. Right now main interest in is longevity and by that I mean how long will it stay relevant before I have to upgrade or build a new PC. Granted I do not plan to overclock any of the cpu's simply as I have not done so before and am just interested in terms of stock performace.

The 6700k will be slightly faster overall at stock, the difference would probably be very negligible.

If you're talking about non-K CPU, then don't bother.
Better to get 6700K or 7700K over any of the other Intel non-K CPUs.
Even if you do not intend to OC
