I7 4790k or new mobo + processor
I have a i5 4460, and my mobo only supports 4th generation processors.
I don't know what do buy and i need help from you guys, should i stick with my mobo and just buy an i7 4790k and overclock it with the help of an water cooler or buy a new mobo to support ryzen processors? What do you guys think?

Despite the BIG discussion (lol) i think i will get a ryzen bc the total price is a bit similar to the i7-4790k, anyway, thanks for the help guys, i apreciate it.
As someone who went from a 4.8ghz oc 4790k to ryzen in jan, you won't be disappointed.

Depends on how cheap you can get a 4790K and if the motherboard is a Z chipset or not. If you get the 4790K for a really high price and can't overclock it, there's no point in going for it, because the Ryzen 3 3300X, 5 1600 AF, and 3600 are all better value at a higher overall system price.

Funny enough, I am in exactly the same position as you. I have a I5-4440 been considering a I7-4790k also. You will find that the 4790 is actually a bit more affordable, I'd be happy with a 4790 upgrade if you can get it relatively cheaply. If you can't get it relatively cheap, there really is not much point upgrading. As you can upgrade to a ryzen set up stretching a little extra.

I am still happy with the performance I am getting at the moment, so I will wait until this pc finaly give up on me until considering a ryzen set up.
the k cpu has higher base and turbo vs non k
it cant oc in non z boards

a newer intel cpu/mobo/ram combo will run over $300

if near a microcenter the 2600+mobo combos are around $200 (will also need ddr4 ram kit)

will be about as fast as 4th gen i5/i7 k oc'd

The best thing to do is upgrade. 4/8t cpus while still hold up are considered low-end now. I had to upgrade from a 4670k due to serious CPU bottlenecks in some games. Now if you are on a tight budget the Ryzen 3 3300x and 3100 are the same as a 7700k and if you pair that with a B450 mobo you have a good upgrade path for the future.
Don't even bother getting a 4790 now. Save up for a new motherboard and CPU.
I wouldn't recommend AMD since it has bug driver that lead my game crashed. I recommend just upgrade the CPU if it is cheap. That way you can save your money for better new PC.

Evidence?
I've used AMD Ryzen for 3 years (multiple generations) and have had no such problem. If you're not going to actually provide evidence, don't make the statement. In the consumer CPU market, Ryzen has been beating the crap out of Intel for sales in 2020. You don't see every one of those guys complaining about some bug.

I've used AMD GPUs since before and after Navi, doesn't crash. Others have had issues with Adrenalin 2020, but that was fixed over 3 months ago.

Ignore Jame, he always makes claims that he can't and won't prove.
There is nothing wrong with AMD Ryzen, I've used it since launch and his claim is BS.

We've been through this. Stop making false claims like you do all of the time about AMD Ryzen "being buggy and causing game crashes." You do that, it's one less topic for people who know you're wrong to correct you on.

Leave me alone, please, if you care about OP.

I do care about the OP, that's why I explained why your claim about Ryzen is just wrong.
You obviously don't care, because you go out of your way to make claims you refused to prove.

You're seriously going to consistently go up against someone who's actually used Ryzen since it launched, while you've barely touched it and probably picked bad RAM because you didn't use QVL like you're supposed to.

It will not make things better, and I do care about OP. So, leave me alone, please. Stop harassing me.

I'm not. You just can't handle being corrected and lash out because you can't prove 90% of what you say. Simple.

You're wrong, simple as that. Your claim about AMD doesn't help the OP, it only harms him. AMD has made most of the CPU sales in 2020, hence why Swan basically told everyone to ignore benchmarks and "look at the benefits" of Intel processors, because he's not making as much money as AMD is in the consumer grade market.
