gpu and cpu around 50% in csgo
Hello,

my gpu and cpu are at around 50ish % in csgo, shouldnt be the gpu at 100%?
i always get atleast 200fps with everything on high and msaa at 2x

my specs are:

i7 6700k at 4.2
gtx1080
16gb of 3200ram or somewhere at 2800ish (dont remember)

and only ssd's in the pc.

thanks

No.

cs can only use 2 cores and has a hard cap at 300fps
if the cpu isnt fast enough the gpu will not be maxed

tldr: oc to 4.5+ to get higher fps

it's not a hard cap

I think your cpu is letting you down. I have a 9600kf at 5GHz and a RX 590 which is a lot slower than your gpu but i can hit 400fps easily at 1440p maxed with no msaa

It doesn't only use 2 cores. It uses 4; i've seen it use at least 3 before, and frametimes do improve when you let the game have 4 threads/cores.

And it's not hardcapped, and that's since been changed. You can uncap with console, and the new cap is 400fps if memory serves.

That's a CPU bottleneck; GPU usage being <95% without an FPS limit is indicitive of something else being the limitig factor. Given the game, it's CPU.

Not that it really matters 200FPS is more than enough for thr majority of players.

But if you're anything like me, that answer won't suffice.
Overclock your CPU and RAM if you can, limit the game to only using 4 threads, and use RTSS to cap FPS, that'd smooth frametimes out, improving smoothness and give no/less stutters.

the gpu driver can use cores, or background tasks
but source engine can only use 2

Threads jumping between cores may make it appear it's using more than two, but it only ever uses two simultaneously.
