New PC struggles to boot/stops responding (Windows 10 dwm.exe)
Note: I have installed/updated all possible drivers/software/bios. If it's of any importance to add, I am running my TV as a second monitor via HDMI.[/b]

Hey all, just built my first PC and unfortunately am having issues. I have been unable to properly troubleshoot the root of the problems. It seems to be hit or miss whether or not I can boot into Windows without having to do a hard reset a few times, otherwise it'll restart indefinitely without even allowing me the opportunity to access the bios.

Moreover, when I do finally get into Windows, it seems that anytime I try to use wallpaper engine, my PC outright freezes up after a random amount of time leading to me having to do a hard reset. Youtube in Firefox has also shown this behavior, but strangely enough I can't seem to replicate this phenomenon (I've tried running several windows with several tabs of youtube videos actively playing at once for a couple hours). On the hardware side of things everything is plugged in, cleaned, and seated properly to my best knowledge, I've even replugged/reseated things such as the RAM.

The thing I find most peculiar in all of this is that I can play pretty heavy titles with no such issues for hours. I've played EA Battlefront 2 for about two-three hours straight with zero issues. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Update 06.10.20: I've narrowed the issue down to dwm.exe eating up my GPU (anywhere between 10% and 70%, spikes up to 100% locking up the system) anytime I move the mouse, close/open windows/tabs. Not sure how to fix this.

Could be bad or incompatible (BIOS isn't applying XMP correctly) RAM. That's usually the most common issue with Ryzen, because the IMC is so picky. It hates Micron die, loves Samsung die, and has a love-hate relationship with Hynix dies.
Try disabling XMP in BIOS next time you get into it and see if that changes anything. If it does, then BIOS is probably improperly setting the XMP values, in which case you'd have to manually set all of the timings, voltage, and clock.

Use 1usmus' DRAM calc for Ryzen: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/download-ryzen-dram-calculator.html
It's a pretty handy tool for finding the best timings for your particular RAM kit. It does require you to know the specs of your RAM if you want an accurate reading outside of detecting the XMP profile values.

Also try using DDU in safe mode to wipe the GPU driver and reinstall the GPU driver. Leave out the GeForce Experience bloatware crap.

what do you mean your RAM is unknown?

UserBenchmark isn't detecting what RAM it is, and he may not know what it is if he didn't build it.

I'll try these out and report back to you.

Patriot Viper Steel 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
UserBenchMark apparently doesn't recognize or acknowledge the brand of RAM, can't even manually input it into their site.

The only Patriot kits on QVL for your motherboard are Viper 4, none of them are Patriot Viper Steel. So it seems like BIOS isn't using the correct XMP values and it's causing issues.

Thaiphoon burner > read > report > scroll to the bottom and click "show delays in nanoseconds" > export / complete HTML report > save
Ryzen DRAM calculator > main > import HTML (bottom left) / use the report you just saved.
Then you just need to put in your details MB/rank/speed etc.

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

Frequency 1066.4 MHz (DDR4-2132) - Ratio 3:32
Timings 15-15-15-36-51-1 (tCAS-tRC-tRP-tRAS-tCS-tCR)
Slot #1 Module Patriot Memory 8192 MB (DDR4-2137) - XMP 2.0 - P/N: 3200 C16 Series
Slot #2 Module Patriot Memory 8192 MB (DDR4-2137) - XMP 2.0 - P/N: 3200 C16 Series

you have a ddr3200 kit, should be at 1600mhz

boot to bios, set the ram xmp profile to 3200/1600mhz
it will set the timings and voltages for the ram for you

I told him to turn off XMP and see if the problem persisted, he probably did that.
His memory kit isn't on his motherboard's QVL for Matisse, so he's testing to see if it's an incorrect XMP profile applied by the BIOS that's causing the issues.

Disabling XMP seemed to yield the same results.

1. Clear CMOS by removing the battery (or hitting the Clear CMOS button on the back of the motherboard if it has a button) and make sure BIOS is up to date

2. Try another kit of RAM ASAP, it could still be the RAM

3. Wipe the GPU driver with DDU if you haven't already, and then reinstall the driver.

better to reset bios in bios, via set to defaults option

try with 1 dimm at a time to see if the problem follows a specific dimm

Use Speccy and CPUZ, UB is junk

I used the Ryzen caluculator and inputted the safe values and my PC is currently rejecting them.
