RTX 2070 black screen after every second boot
Hey guys ,

I recently bought a GAINWARD RTX 2070 to upgrade my old gtx 1070 card. I installed it , but every second power button start up gets to black screen...So I hit the power button , everything is working ( I can hear and see it inside the pc ) but the monitor shows no signal.

Once I hold the power button to power off and rehit the button after some time , the monitor shows up , everything is working perfectly ! ( I tested it , I played with my new video card and no fps drop, stuttering , screen error etc.)

I do not understand why  this is  happening... why every second startup . I updated  to the latest video card drivers. I changed back to gtx 1070 and its always working as it intended. I do not use any overclocking on any of my hardware.

Can it be a problem that I don't have enough voltage with the new graphics card? I saw some forums , normal psu with 500W could handle the RTX2070 and the system starts up and working every second try.

Here are my specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600x

GPU: RTX 2070 8gb

RAM : 16gb (2x8)
PSU : Chieftec element series 500W (ELP 500S) Bronze

Mobo : Asrock A320M-DVS R3.0 (bios are up to date)
Monitor : AOC Q3279VWFD8 2560x1440 (I'm using display port cable)
I'm using 2x 3.0 USB slot ( Regular  Keyboard + Mouse) with a PCI card .

Thanks for any advice !

(Sorry for my english)

1. What's the exact model of the RAM? A320 can struggle with 3000 MHz kits, and that can cause issues at boot.

2. PSU might be too low quality/weak to actually handle the load that the 2070 is putting onto it, the 2070 uses half of the PSU's total wattage support just by itself. Total system power consumption of the system is closer to 400W or higher, so it's close to the limit.

DDU wipe your Drivers and disable Windows Auto Driver feature.

Disable Fast Boot in bios.

Disable Fast Startup in Win10.

Then reboot.

Kingston hyper x fury black 2x8 gb 2666mhz
...but I do not understand why its even booting up if the psu would not be enough with voltage.
The system runs perfectly fine every second power button startup ...
I played yesterday 3 hours straigh without any issue.

I will try these steps. Thanks

A poor PSU may still power up the system, as the cpu or gpu aren't under high loads. However if when under load the system turns off or auto reboots, that's usually a clear sign that your PSU is not enough.

Always do full load tests outside of gaming to determine if PSU is enough. Such as running these two tests at the same time for approx 30-60 mins

Prime95 > small FFTs loop test

MSI Kombuster > vram # test (pick the one that your gpu has for vram amount)

I see. So gaming like cod modern warfare on Ultra settings with 2k screen is not that stressful like a program of these? Can it harm any of my components if the psu stops down middle of these stress programs ?

No, can't harm anything. Your cpu and gpu will thermal throttle of gets too hot to prevent damages and if the PSU is not enough, it'll shut off or cause an auto reboot.

It's also a good way to test how good your overall cooling is as well, as such tests do tend to make such hardware run hotter due to how the stress tests work, as opposed to how games work and how those tax your hardware.

Recommended psu for an rtx 2070 is 600w with 550w being minimum so this might actually be the issue as the op indicates he has only a 500w.

I fixed it by updating bios. ( nothing else worked, its not a psu problem)

Since no trouble at all ?
