How to force super-low resolutions in-game (while using exclusive fullscreen)
Most games nowadays don’t support fullscreen resolutions lower than say, 720p. If I wanted to run the game at, say, 540p, I’d need to use windowed or borderless fullscreen. Is there any way I can override the game’s limitations from going below 720p in exclusive fullscreen?

The way I understand it, if my current desktop resolution is 540p, launching a game which only supports 720p and higher will cause the game to “request” a switch to 720p while it’s launching; basically, is there a way for me to get my pc to “ignore” this “request”?

If it's any modern game, it would look so bad below 720p it wouldn't even be enjoyable to play.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. To me, all that really matters is having esports-grade framerate. As long as I can see where everything is, I don’t really care how ugly it looks

Modern games are designed for widescreen. That means 720p (1280x720 or 1366x768) and above. Below that is 480p (720x480, DVD quality, 16:9) but PC doesn't support that at the OS Desktop or Games

But below 720p resolutions DO work in the desktop for me...
Why can’t it just be kept like that when the game is launched? Is it like, developers have to manually program each supported resolution separately?

Your Desktop might have an option for 800x600 and 1024x768, but nothing that is 16:9 ratio below 1280x720

games that use dx or ogl/vulkan can ask the driver what resolutions the displays support
but the devs need to make adjustments to the ui or scaling to make it look best on those aspect ratios
4:3, 5:4, 16:9, 16:10, 21:9 32:9, and combos for nv surround and amd eyefinity, with bezel correction

check wsgf.org for instructions on most games for multimon or odd res support

I use a custom 540p desktop resolution...

I don’t mind the ui looking weird; even if it becomes difficult to use, I’m sure I can still make do with it

The game has to support a screen resolution or have other options, such as custom launch options. Otherwise the answer is basically NO.

You not going to gain any fps going from 720p to 540p. Just run at what the monitor supports and use proper aspect ratio

I see in Intel HD Graphics control panel an option (checkbox) called “override application settings” (for resolution); could this do what I’m looking for?

Ps: I use a gaming laptop, so I have both Nvidia and Intel control panels. I found out recently laptops are supposed to be that way

So...
Do you know if that setting will do it?

E-sports grade games are CPU limited on any relatively modern system, so lowering the resolution won't help you.

The game runs at 100-200 FPS in FHD low settings on 750 Ti, and this graphics card is below low-end. Do you really see 99% GPU usage with your settings on your rig?
