Confused by Boot priority and can't seem to boot from USB anymore

Hi,

I need some help. My motherboard is an MSI Z370 and I'm trying to boot from a bootable USB Flash drive.

Yet despite using this method to install Windows 10 when I first built the machine, it's no longer working.

Since building the machine a year ago I've added an extra SSD. I've now got

500GB 2TB Windows installed here C:\
2TB Hard drive D:\
External hard drive E:\
2TB SSD F:\

I went to the boot options menu, and chose USB Key as the first boot, doesn't work. Also I'm very confused of how my system knows what to boot from anyway. My SSD drives do not appear in the boot menu.

They don't all seem to be all showing in the boot priority pictures on the front screen either, unless I'm looking at them wrong.

Update:

I reset the Motherboard settings and It's booting from the USB now. I'm pretty sure that's all I changed to make it work.

I'm still curious about the Boot priority images at the top which you can drag. Why don't my SSD drives show here?

I've found the boot priority for my SSD's but they were in a different menu.

change the boot order
ssd/hdd first
use f key or bios to force usb/odd boot when needed

if a drive does not appear in bios drive list, check the manual to see what sata ports disabled when m.2 are populated by sata/nvme drives

On a uefi motherboard you should never need to change the boot order away from the os drive being set as the only boot device. If you need to boot from usb, press the F# key that allows one-time-boot options menu to popup. Or enter the bios and simply double click the usb or other boot drive in order to boot from that just one time.
