Overclocking @ 5.0 GHz
I recently got a i5 9600kf, I have a Z390 Gaming X mobo and im trying to get a stable 5 GHz but im not sure what voltage to set it to.

On https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/intel-core-i5-9600k-processor-review,23.html they state you need between 1.3 and 1.35 volts to achieve 5.2 Ghz.

My chip does 4.8 at 1.29V, 4.9 at 1.34V and im trying 1.37V at 5.0Ghz and firestrike runs well but cinebench crashes and so does timespy. Also Ive set it to 1.37 on the mobo but acording to aida64 and coretemp the voltage peaks at 1.3V so im not sure what to make of this.

Any idea what voltage I should try? And why does cinebench and timespy crash whenever i try run it yet aida 64 stresstest and firestrike works fine

edit - My room is currently cold as its 5am and I have a 120mm aio so temps idle at like 25 degrees and peaks at 50 odd

Why do you need to overclock, I've never understood this, is it a trend?

Overclocking was a hobby for people trying to get as much juice out of an 'OLD' CPU.

Kids these days.

What next, 'I want my PC to look cool with flashing lights'

pffft

I've never understood this, why do people come into threads and spout their pointless opinions on subjects that upset them, when they themselves looked for the topic?

It's not a trend, trends are short lived. Overclocking has been a thing since some of the first CPUs came out.
And overclocking is another way of getting more for your money. Push the CPU to a higher clockspeed, improve framerates and frametimes, having a much nicer experience.
It also allows you to slightly extend the life of the hardware.

Just because you don't agree with something (subjective) doesn't mean it's wrong. You choose to get upset by it.
I'd've thought someone who proclaims themself as old would have better perspective and understanding.

Overclocking isnt a hobby for people to get as much juice out of an old cpu... And why an old cpu and not a new cpu? Have you never heard of the website silicon lottery or overclockers uk...

I only assumed I could hit 5ghz because pretty much every benchmark video I see of the 9th gen chips are clocked at 5ghz. Stop trying to act as the 'old and wise' sort as if youre some higher up being when you clearly dont know a thing. A simple google of 'overclock' will result in you finding that its very popular amongst the community and like 90% of results on 3dmark are of overclocked systems.

There are many competitions in which people like Kingpin and other renown overclockers where they use liquid nitrogen or even liquid helium to cool down cpus and gpus to overclock them to ridiculous levels. Kingpin even has his own lineup of EVGA cards, its not simply just a 'hobby' for old cpus

Overclocking is for sheep, if the CPU is good enough, than it's good enough.

Kids just trying to be trendy, if you can afford to lose your CPU from overclocking, than just buy one that doesn't need it.

Not upset at all

But hey if people want to kill their new CPU with overclocking, good luck to them [more money than brain cells] Just don't see the point of overclocking a new CPU.

it's a trend by the brain dead sheep.

Every cpu can overclock, it makes it faster even the top end i9 and threadrippers can overclock and it does yield a significant performance increase. How is it for sheep to overclock? Its like saying tuning and getting a stage 2 done on your car is for sheep and that you should just buy a faster car... makes no sense. Stop trolling on forums and answer the original question

I'm sure if you take anything, and then pick it apart, it can be 'for sheep.'

Yeah, if your CPU is good enough, you shouldn't have to, it's there for people that WANT to do it, and they have every right to, it's a product they bought, they have every right to do what they want with it.

Overclocking is perfectly safe, since it doesn't actually change anything but the clockspeed. There'll be no damage.
Now, overvolting, that can harm the CPU, but so long as you don't pump an ungodly voltage into the CPU, you're not going to cause it any damage, or degrade it any sooner.
And, often, it helps people with a slightly tighter budget, which can't just 'buy a new CPU', get some better performance.

Again, I'll refer to my previous statement, because YOU don't agree with it doesn't mean it's wrong.

All of the comments your making seem to be based on emotion, there's no need to be upset because you don't agree with it.

They won't kill it though, it's perfectly safe (Overclocking, not overvolting.)

You don't see the point? Well, that's your opinion on the matter, other people have different opinions of the subject.
But, at the end of the day, your opinion, my opinion, and others opinions is meaningless. It's OPs property, they can do whatever they want with it. And if they decide to overclock, that's their decision. Live with it (or keep crying, it's funny.)

I'm sure if you share something you like, I can find some way to twist it to make you seem stupid for doing it, or just straight up make an outrageous claim about it.

Just gotta nitpick, not every CPU can overclock. Even some AMD CPUs have locked overclock options.

A bit over a decade ago it wasn't uncommon to achieve 50%-100% overclock, that's why so many people overclocked their cpu in those days.

I had an Opteron 165, which was clocked by default at 1.8 GHz, I ran that thing at 2 6 GHz, then I moved onto i7 920 which ran at default 2.66 GHz, I ran that thing at 3.6 GHz.

When you could have an extra GHz from your hardware for free of course you want to overclock and also we saved money by buying the cheapest high end hardware and run them on par with the most expensive hardware or even surpassing them.
