Most Steam and Origin Games display unwanted microphone icon!

There is a small microphone icon and a circle icon that has started appearing in the bottom right corner of the screen whenever I load an Origin or Steam game. The icons don't do anything when left or right clicked on. The microphone symbol looks a lot like that in Windows Settings / Microphone, and is displayed on all game screens. I have turned off the Xbox game bar as I thought that might be causing the problem. I haven't installed any new programs recently or Windows Updates. I have done a malware scan with Malwarebytes.

Might not be it, but check windows game mode.Second step would be to check audio drivers/utilities.

Many thanks for your idea. Turning off game mode didn't help. I've checked Windows microphone and sound settings in Windows Settings (Control Panel) but can't find what's causing the problem. I'll check the audio drivers / utilities, though they haven't been updated. I don't even use the microphone!

as stated its likely GFE having to do with Shadowplay

If you dont need GFE or Shadowplay when installing the GPU driver next time, choose Driver Only then Custom Install, only have PhysX selected.

Many thanks Unarmed Bandit and CJ, turning off GeForce Experience's in-game overlay (which I don't use) removed the unwanted in-game icons.
