Extremely High Lag/ Latency on New PC
Id like an opinion on what could be causing this issue... I just finished building this brand new gaming computer.

1T Samsung 970 EVO ssd
1T Hard drive
Aorus z390 Ultra
32 Gigs of Ram
RTX 2080

I have the new Modern Warfare installed at the moment and it runs great. In game, CPU stays at about 45 degrees and my GPU at about 60 degrees. Averaging about 100fps at 1440p. So I really dont suspect a hardware issue there... And thats all. But there is EXTREME latency whenever I use a browser. Or open a picture. Like YouTube for example, when I type a comment there is lag with the letters. Ill type the sentence before it appears on screen. Or It takes 10 seconds or so to expand other comments or to switch to theater mode etc.

Compared to my last PC however... Its a 6 year old Windows 7, installed on 1 harddrive with no partitions. The same drive with my games. The Harddrive is 97% full and it has 16 gigs of ram. GTX 980.

And in comparison, my old computer runs at lightning speed. Flawlessly. Zero latency/ lag anywhere; none on the desktop and none on YouTube. I dont understand.

my first suspicion is some kind of bloatware that's causing this issue. Could be the motherboard software or anything else really. You're hardware is good. What cpu do you have?

Definitely software related. My laptop has that same issue with YouTube and only YouTube, any other video service runs fast, any other page loads fast.

Is this only a browser issue? what browser you use? do you have enable hardware accelleration enabled or no?

did you install the correct chipset/mobo drivers

find out where the loss is coming from

start -> run/search -> cmd
tracert google.com

(first hop is your router most are 192.168.x.1)
(2nd-3rd are your modem or isp)

open another cmd prompt

ping -t 192.168.x.1 (modem ip)
repeat for 2nd and 3rd hops that respond (cover router, modem, isp)

play a game til you get lag spikes

go back to cmd prompts and hit ctrl+c to stop them
they will give results, min, max, avg and loss
if max is over 100ms to your router/modem then its a lan issue

if its wired, replace cables or get a new router

if its wireless, change its wireless channel to one thats less populated
*protip, use a droid phone and download 'wifi analizer'
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en
will show nearby wifi networks and what channels they are on

if the 2nd-3rd hops is getting spikes and the first is not, its an isp issue, have them send out a tec to fix it

My CPU is an Intel i9-990k. I've considered it is some kind of software issue but everything is as stock as it comes atm... The only thing I have downloaded is some software from corsair to control some rgb lights. And the program is off. As for the browser Im using Microsoft Edge.

I dont know how to check if I have hardware acceleration or not because the option is not there for me. Internet says it is Display Settings>Advanced Display Settings> Display properties> Troubleshoot tab>Hardware Acceleration

But I have no trouble shoot tab when I open it. Only adapter, monitor and color management.

I installed the drivers that came on my motherboard CD. As far as I know, there is nothing more I can do besides updating the BIOS which I heard is risky business and not necessary unless you are experiencing major problems.

get the latest driver from the mobo site

id do a bios update since its a new cpu/mobo, worst case rma it
ugafan Apr 29, 2020 @ 11:21pm
you can get the latest drivers for your motherboard off the gigabyte website. be sure to try a different lan driver.

go ahead and download chrome and firefox to see if there is less lag than with edge.

As a last resort I'll look into it. Thank you.

Silly question, but are there driver updates seperate from Bios updates? Because I looked up drivers for my motherboard the other night and only found bios updates.

Also I downloaded Chrome and right off the bat it seems to run a lot faster and smoother than Microsoft Edge. Hopefully that is all that is wrong. Thank you

bad wireless keyboards can do this, perhaps bad wired ones too

Go to the manufacturers website, get the most recent chipset and network drivers.

An idea also came to me, it might possibly be in internet explorer smartscreen and whatever addons it has if you enabled them. Maybe it's trying to fetch some data from the net and that's the holdup.
