What files are you referring to? Downloaded files are stored where *you* ask them to be stored when they are being downloaded. If you weren't asked where to store them, then by default they were probably downloaded to C:\Users\<Username>\Downloads.

If you are referring to files that are downloaded by the OS itself as part of ongoing maintenance, that's a different answer, but that's not what you asked.
Just Google "windows store games install location"

It can also be changed if you like.
you can put downloaded files anywhere
use the browser or download manager setting to change locations
He's simply asking, when using the Windows Store to download/install things, if they are also placed elsewhere and not just the default location.

Not a hard question to answer if you KNOW the answer
come on people

Okay, let's clear this up...
You are NOT asking about Windows "store" apps, you are asking where Windows stores--i.e., puts-- files while they are being downloaded?

Assuming you are using the conventional download manager from within any of the major web browsers, files are downloaded *directly* to the directory you have chosen. If you haven't chosen a destination folder via the file dialog, most browsers will default to the "Downloads" folder if this is indicated in the browser's settings. Files downloaded in this way are usually not downloaded to some temporary folder first, they are downloaded directly to their final destination as chosen.
However... many browsers will give these files a different name or file extension WHILE they are in the process of being downloaded to indicate the file is not complete, and then rename the file when the download is fully complete.

For example, if I'm downloading a large file called "something.zip" to my Desktop folder using Google Chrome, I might see a file named "something.zip.CRDOWNLOAD" appear on my desktop while being downloaded, and Chrome will change the name to the original "something.zip" once the download is finished. Most of the other browsers do the same type of thing, and bittorrent clients operate simarly as well.

I hope this answers your original question.

No, he's asking, when you download something from the Windows store, does it download the game or app directly to the install location or is there a cache/downloading folder the store uses like Steam.

@MancSoulja

You need to re-read the OP's question and post #2.
Short answer, no. Whatever you downloaded should be there. Unless you somehow selected a new location. Try downloading something else. See where it goes. See if it asks you if you want to put it somewhere else and where that is. Yes, there may be a temp storage while the bits are being downloaded. That is probably to the Windows temp directory. Try looking there. If the download never completes there may be a partial file in Temp.
Different users will see a different download directory. It is really under C:/users...
If for some reason you think its putting the files downloaded in another location just do a full search for the file in question, it should find all copies and display them.
Windows can save downloaded files to different locations. More or less, a pc can have downloads all over the place. The reason is that windows has its own settings for where its downloads go, but other apps like screen and video capture and browsers can/will have their own settings. It's more likely that a download like a zip or movie is application controlled.

Apps can also download a file automatically to a set location or ask you where to save the file. The second option can be a bit of a pain if playing a game as it will cause a dialog box to open which could interrupt the game.

I moved my "downloads" directory to my hard drive as I don't want downloads on my windows o/s drive.

Windows o/s updates are usually "hidden" and it might take a "disk cleanup" to remove old updates.

I'm pretty sure this is the Answer you are asking...

Windows Store Downloads:

- Temp Folder = Temporary Download
- Start Menu = Install Folder

I think is how it works? Why were you asking
about the Temp Folder that it goes into?

sigh
i wonder if op is the one trolling or rest of you are 🙄

of course windows 10 uses a temp folder and more then just that
be it for transfering from a download to whereever you specify be it c be it downloads or mynoobgamefolder

ive actually seen cases of hackers toying around leaving blank files in a temp folder where the temp folder only appeared when doing some floppy disk searches with an external usb floppy drive, yes it goes to temp folder first no matter where you specify the file to be sent to, same goes for dls, so yes ask hackers i seen them leave ♥♥♥♥ to decode in temp 🙄
What exactly are you asking here?

For pretty much any application you can store files anywhere or change where any temporary files go.

However Windows Store (that built in Store for Windows 10) is somewhat different.

Windows Store uses the Windows Universal Platform system (UWP) and stores all games and apps in a set folder. This folder CAN NOT be changed, but you can install to other drives.

The Default for C: drive is C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. This folder is hidden and encrypted. Even if you change ownership, you still won't fully own this folder.

If you install Windows Store Apps and games to another drive the hidden WindowsApps folder will be located in the root directory of the drive. So for D:\ it would be D:\WindowsApps.

The "downloads" folder is just the default user folder for files the user manually downloaded via web browser and such.

The OS, it handles things differently, it always has (and has nothing to do about Windows 10) used various folders to handle things such as Windows Updates.

Use Disk Cleanup ran via the admin option in order to flush those temp files the OS keeps hidden from plain view. Do not tick the Downloads box if you keep files left inside your Users Downloads folder, as is what that pertains to.
