XMP not working
I posted about this last night but I wasnt able to figure out the problem. In bios, when I click on Xmp and reboot my pc I get an error page that tells me to return to previous settings. But I’m getting about 800mhz and it makes games unplayable. What should I do? I need this fixed asap

Really? I’m not at all an expert on computers, I built this pc solely on youtube videos. All of this is new to me... Unfortunately I am at work so in about 7 hours I will reseat the ram and cross my fingers. But in the event that that doesnt work, I’m all for returning my ram and ordering new ones. As long as the RAM itself is the issue, I can care less about buying new ones.
put it this way. reseat the ram and if that doesn't work then i would do one of 2 things depending how confident i was that i seated the cpu correctly. if i was confident and the cpu is reporting normally and functioning normally i would return the ram for a replacement.. if you think theres a chance the cpu might not be seated properly or you accidentally touched the pins in the socket somehow when inserting the cpu then remove the cpu and check for bent pins. most coolers don't really allow you to put too much downforce on the cpu but there are some that is is possible if not tightened down correctly so it may have misaligned the contact pads or something..

I dont think the cpu was seated incorrectly, I’m going to try replacing the ram and see if thats the issue. I know I did not touch the pins accidentally. The only thing I can think of is when I was placing the cpu I gently placed it down and gave it a wiggle (as per the video I watched stated) Lets say theres an issue with the cpu, wouldnt it be not working properly? When I do a benchmark test, everything works flawlessly expect the RAM of course.... But I’ll contact you in the future in case none of the aforementioned solutions work.

sounds like you did everything right so don't stress about it. sometimes these things happen.. when i built my very expensive (at the time) PC it lasted a month before the AIO pump crapped out and was reporting 20 thousand RPM in the bios.. well i didn't hear anything resembling a jet engine or turbocharger so i had to RMA the AIO..

Pc’s can be a pain in the ass huh lol. Maybe this is what I get for telling people it was easy to build my pc haha. thats tragic, I hate how things can malfunction on their own... but 20,000 rpm would definitely sound like a turbocharger haha.

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

ram mhz x2 = ddr #

Ok but that doesn't make much sense. The lowest ddr4 goes is 2133 which comes out to 1067 x2 (the ram speed that CPUZ would show you)

Where are you seeing 800mhz?

If xmp does not work, either that ram isn't good on that board, or you need to first update the board to latest bios to patch update it to where that ram can work properly.

If this is an AM4 motherboard, 3200 might just never work in some systems and may need to be changed to 2800 or 2933, after you apply the xmp setting.

Easy to build, yes. Easy to pick good parts, no. This is why should always ask and do your research before buying if unsure. AM4 boards especially are very picky about ram.

My motherboard is MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC. When I open bios it says 800mhz. Everything was compatible on pcpartpicker, I even had a buddy look over it and nothing seemed incompatible. I have new ram sticks coming in later today. I’m gonna try those and if I still experience the same issue then I’ll do the bios update.

Also, when I run cpu z it says 400mhz which I’m assuming is x2

and check the settings in your system bios under ADVANCED settings

see if you can manually set your ram timings and voltages

pull a ram chip and see what voltage they have listed on your ram chip first

its usually on a sticker on the one side of the dimm along with the timings

I bought new ram so I’m going to try those. If they dont work and I still cant set XMP on then I’m gonna try to manually set the timings. If that dont work then I’m going to do a bios update. And if that dont work then I’m straight up killing myself xD

No need to remove the ram. Go look at the profiles in cpuz

I’m removing it regardless to install the new ones. Personally, I wanted new ram with rgb lights anyway...

Rgb ram are usually slower.
And pointless.
