Advice for PC parts upgrade
Hi looking for some advice. Look to upgrade some parts of my old PC as struggling to run games like arma 3 and squad. I know the CPU is old and need more ram but graphic card is fairly new but seem to be having throttling issuse's with the GPU.

CPU - AMD FX 6100 Six core processor
Ram 8GB
GPU- Radeon rx 570 Series
Mother board- Asus M5A99X EVO
PCU- Antec EA 650

Any advice would be a great help.

What is your budget? (Maximum you're willing to spend.)

What other games will you be playing?

As for the GPU, get some compressed air and just blow all the dust out of the card, if that doesn't do the job, you may want to look at replacing thermal paste.

Not got allot of money at the current moment due to job loss with the current pandemic but just looking for a rough idea what id need to save. The GPU is basiclly brand new so shouldnt need to be cleaned. I noticed that its going from like 0% usage to like 90 in games like arma and stuff. Other games would be like Hearts of iron 4 and the total war games.

FX 6100 is a very weak CPU today. You should consider upgrading to a new motherboard, CPU and Ram.

There is nothing much you can do to upgrade it because even a 3rd gen core i5 and basic H61 motherboard performs better.

fx was weak when it was new almost 10 years ago

atleast you had it in a 990fx board to let it run as good as it can

its not throttling the gpu, its just not able to keep up with it
*unless gpu temps are going over 90c, which is very unlikely

keep it as a htpc/streaming or sell it as is
and save up $600+ for a new build

an upgrade with low budget, get something like this refurbished Dell Optiplex 9020 Tower / i5-4670, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 2TB HDD, DVD, WiFi, Windows 10 Pro[www.amazon.com] and put in your RX570 and PSU - will be a good match for your gpu with much improved cpu performance[cpu.userbenchmark.com] for $240

Yeah thanks guy i know my options are pretty low so im guessing an upgrade would mean a new mother board and cpu and ram, in other words another build then dam gonna have to wait a while then lol was worth a try tho. Regarding the what do you mean keep up with it the temps are fine i was maybe thinking there was not enough power or something but i dont think thats the case. :(

you cant really watch core usge, windows does a good job at spreading out core load
(each cores activity or a maxed core is meaningless)
but you can watch overall cpu usage if you know how many threads the game can use
(fx6 has 6 threads, 2 thread app = 33% max to that app)

or just watch gpu usage and temps while playing
gpu not at 100% and temps below 90c = cpu bottleneck
(or vsync is enabled if at refresh rate in fps)

fx also has a low max temp, 62-72c depending on the rev

Its the ghu thats going up and down from 0 too 80% i use the amd software and it shows ram and cpu also but gpu is up and down

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

that sounds like throttling
unstable oc, poor cooling ect..

You can reuse your storage drives, use the SSD as the boot drive (OS drive)

FX4 and 6 aren't worth keeping, especially the original ones.

Use MSI Afterburner instead, and make sure to turn on "Unified GPU usage" in settings.

fsb overclocked?
never do that on unlocked cpus

go to bios and reset it to defaults
then set ram to its rated speeds/timings or xmp if the board supports it
if you want to overclock, just raise the cpu multi, wont change the ram freq, ht and other things
