Dx10 feature needed on windows 10
I am trying to play a game which I haven't played before. After downloading it, I tried to run and it gave me an error notification saying: DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the game. I haven't encountered this issue before on other games and I have tried many methods of fixing it but nothing has worked.
I have a desktop PC and my graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. It says it supports the feature level 10. The driver is updated, i am running it with the correct graphics card, and I don't think DirectX needs repairing or updating.
If there is anyone who knows how to fix the problem, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Either it means later version of 10, or something wrong with video driver, or DirectX driver, this is only my guess on this.

your gpu supports only dx10 and not dx11 which means you cant play dx11 only games.
there are some workarounds how you can still play but you should google this by yourself.
I don't know who's saying the 9800 GT supports DX11, because it doesn't. It only supports DX10, that's the official spec.

You're better off upgrading the GPU at this point, given its age. What are the rest of your specs? If it's all as ancient as that card, you're best off starting fresh.

I can't imagine that the 9800 GT would be remotely decent for modern games when AMD on-board graphics in their Ryzen CPUs is actually better; the Vega 8 iGPU in Ryzen 3 APUs like the 2200G and 3200G is almost twice as powerful as the 9800 GT.

You're right it doesn't support DX11, misread it on techpowerup.

In general later version of DirectX are fully backwards compatible. So it might be worthwhile to cross a few things off the list as a sanity check.

For clarity, what game?

And it's also possible that even though the error message has the number 10.0 in it doesn't necessarily mean DX10. Can you paste or otherwise provide the error message exactly?

When I try this, it says that a newer or equivalent version has been installed already.

The exact message is: DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the engine.
I'm trying to run dauntless.

Yea, no you're not going to be able to play it. Also that game is DX11, not DX10 at all

Looking at the Dauntless system requirements the 9800GT is way below the minimum requirements....

Well.for one that gpu is way too old for Win10. You must have at least a gtx 6xx gpu for Win10. Everything older stopped having driver updates ages ago. And yes 9800 series was only up to DX10, which dates back to the release of Vista. It's time for a new gpu bud. Go grab a RX 570 or 580, they are decent enough for 1080p gaming for well under $200 range. Some of these even under $150 range.
