Are there ANY games in existence that could possibly benefit from more than 16GB of ram?
I decided to upgrade my ram to 32GB yesterday. Not for gaming though. Upgraded for other reasons that have nothing to do with actually playing games.

But since I have it now, and I do game, I have to ask... Are there actually any games that benefit from this much ram? Not as in requiring this much ram, but instead could actually get gains in performance.

I don't think there is, yet... But if someone could prove me wrong, I'd be happy to hear about it.

Every game if you use Google Chrome.

Planet Coaster & BeamNG Drive if you use literally any other app aside from Steam launching them...

And any game which demands 12-16GB if you have multiple game launchers and an antivirus, such as... Steam, Origin, uPlay, Bitdefender, Battle.net, Bethesda.net, Epic Games Store all running at once.

Ark, City Skylines for starters... and many other games that will need more ram once you start allowing it to load more scripts, mods, etc.

As 16gb total system ram really only gives you approx 8-12gb maybe to play around with due to what the OS and apps are going to need. So to even have 16gb for games, you'd need around 24-32gb total system ram.

RUST, Cities: Skylines I can think of right away.

How much stuff you're running and how much RAM the game wants is a factor, so is if you wish to stream it or not.

Skyrim:SE with tons of mods, XD. I remember running out of sysmemory before upgrading. PubG also, but i think they since optimized pubg more.

Let's say I'm not running other background programs or mods/scripts.

planet coaster & BeamNG drive due to arguably poor optimization.

If you can spare the money and already have a decent cpu and gpu, I see no reason not to grab
2x 16gb of ram these days. It's one thing if you just can't fit that into your budget, but if you can, go for it.

That's interesting on beamng, since it runs pretty much flawlessly even on my laptop. Which the laptop has 16gb of ram. NEver had any performance issues with that.

Planet Coaster perhaps? But isn't the slowdown from large parks more due to park patrons using up CPU due to AI calculations and everything else being GPU intensive due to the geometry and assets being loaded? Where does the additional RAM come into play in helping with the performance issues from massive parks?

Primarily the same games listed from people still apply even with this considered.

i'd quad channel 8x, not dual 16x, sure, there's a marginal gain, but some day soon that might matter. + op wants performance.

I'm not asking for assistance on buying ram. I appreciate the thought, but I said I already upgraded my ram.

But there is no advantage to 4x 8gb.
Consumer systems do not offer any sort of Quad Channel memory support. Only Intel Workstation and AMD ThreadRipper offers quad channel. All consumer level platforms are Dual Channel. Making use of 2x16gb in modern motherboard that support it makes sense. It's cheaper for one and allows further ram expansion if ever needed.

Maybe.

When I went from 16GB to 32GB, a lot of games were apparently snappier.

At the time was unsure about buying RAM. The prices went up a little so decided to buy. Since then they have went up even more - well at least here in Australia.

32GB is a nice to have but not essential.

Also I use primocache with 8GB permanently used to speed up the boot drive.

Then there is speed & latency. In some situations it is better to replace it with 16GB of high speed low latency RAM.

Usually heavily modded games will eat your ram. Even games lime Minecraft can easily use your ram if you max the game out with mods and intensive worlds. I have my MC to use 8GB of ram for it to be stable.

Space Engineers can be very ram heavy if you have a giant ship with a high block count which exceeds the recommended limit of 100,000 blocks and if you travel at very very high speeds at like 30,000 m/s can easily use 16GB of ram

rust ark 7 days to die any big open world games, even rust normally need more then 16 same as ark
