RTX 2080 Super for 1080p gaming?
So I'm currently rocking an i7 9700k with an asus rog strix 2070 super advanced and was wondering if it's alright to upgrade to a 2080 super for 1920x1080p 144hz gaming? Graphical settings will always be set on high. Is it too overkill or fine

I'm running a 9900K and a EVGA 2080 super. I don't know how much of a difference my CPU makes, but I can run the two games I'm into right now (DOOM Eternal and Elite Dangerous) at 2560x1440, 165hz, maxed settings at at least 165FPS. BTW, as long as you buy a good card there's no such thing as "overkill" in gaming, unless you're really hot for a next gen feature.

AMD announced now that they will not supprot x370 motherboards with ryzen 4000. Could they do the same and next graphics card from both amd nvidia and also intel work only on current motherboards in order to force evryone upgrade their motherboards or they will continue working on all motherboards like they already do.

Not sure what you mean. Intel 10th gen already requires new Motherboard; i.e. Z490

I meant if they made the next graphics cards work only on current mothetrboards to forcr us all upgrade cpus and motherboards or if graphics cards will continue working on older motherboards too. Intel is changing socket each year while amd not. Anyway therte is no poing upgrading from ryzen 7 1700 because it still can run evrything at max settigns 1440p 60+ fps with a good graphics card.

They'd be killing their own industry if they did that. The reason many newer gpus don't work on very old boards like lga 775 and ones of similar age has to do with many factors, mainly something to do with the bios, possibly something with uefi also. But since motherboards generally would never get a bios update after its warranty support period ends, they are left in the land of legacy devices. For example gtx gpus before the 7xx series are not uefi compliant.

Guys I’ve already got the 2080 super and I didn’t paid the full price of course only 10 percent because it was an exchange from my 2070 super. Unfortunately I’m still hearing some coil whine coming from my gpu and was wondering what is the problem this time. I’m thinking of exchanging it again for a better one
I dunno. I have an asus 2080 and an asus 2070 super evo oc and both have been great. Even cranked fps and settings i cant hear a thing, especially over my case fans.

Did you had the strix versions without coil whine? If so I’m curious as I want to know what PSU you are using? I’m currently using an EVGA 600W 80 plus certified PSU and I’ve had evga 2060 super, strix 2070 super, and now strix 2080 super all with coil whine
rtx 2080 super is a bit overkill for 1080 gameing !!

You dont need a Rtx 2080 super

if you do not have atleast a I9 9900k unlocked cpu 5ghz and 4 ghz ram, a ssd that runs 3200 mb/s R/w to support it with ...

Rtx 2080 super is for 4k at around 144+ fps/hz ..

But you need a whole pc buildup to support it ---

2070 super is more than enough for 1080 resolution .. you can run CS:GO above 400 fps with it with all settings to max x16 .. that more than any screen can support it .. yet

you need a 500+hz screen to support 500+ fps without inputlag or other latency issues ..

False. 2080 super is not for 4k 144hz. It cannot even maintain 144fps at 1440p. It's quite ideal for 1080p ~144hz. And if you turn on raytracing you probably wont get 144fps either...

Do you get any coil whine with your card? Because my strix 2080 super does and it’s lowkey annoying

A bit, in some games. It's not so much a whine, but more like a hiss. Not very annoying for me, and almost inaudible when wearing headphones, even when muted.

I got EVGA2080 Super FTW3 Ultra Gaming if that matters.

not sure what the point of this thread was clearly you were gonna buy it anyways lol
This is why I TRY to buy up. A former friend, who had grown increasingly opinionated over time, took off after me for buying a 1200w digital PSU. For the time I've owned it its been rock stable, no issues, and has the overhead I wanted for expansion. The moral of this story? Research and then buy what you want. I tend to view any statement that starts with "You don't need..." with contempt.

That's why buy my GPUs from Amazon, B&H, MicroCenter. As I could easily return a GPU to them for simply not liking it.

Oh, no. Sorry i thought you had asus dont know why, thought i read asus. I have evga 750g+ powersupply in my recent build. The 2080 is powered by some prebuild supply. Also what power settings is the card under in tye nvidia control? I keep mine at peformance and its a tad hotter maybe but havent noticed an louder.

2060 is crap
2060 is probably like the best budget card imo... on par with the GTX 1080 yet cheaper only downside is the trash 6gb... thats why I went with the super instead
