2x 980 = 1x 1070?
Is that about right? Two 980s the same as one 1070?

I think a good analogy would be 1x 1070 = 1x ~980ti

Except very few games will take advantage of SLI, and might even run worse.

Two 980 is roughly a 1080, but that is to assume the game supports SLI in a very high scale.
