Asus RT-AC5300 does it have its own DNS server?
Or am I still using my ISP DNS servers ?

It doesn't have a DNS server. Just DHCP.

Does it need to? Nope.

Can just designate one if you prefer, if having better results with 3rd party DNS over the one your ISP provides; such as Google or OpenDNS for example.

This can be input on the Router's side so it is applied to every device on it's Network.
Or you can apply on the device-side; such as the Network Adapter's IPv4 and IPv6 in Windows OS
