4k gaming at 144fps?
So I had a glance at the new Acer predator x27 monitor set for release this year: 4k, 144hz, hdr among other goodies. What kind of graphic power are we talking here to game at 4k between 60-144fps?
I currently rock a 1080p 144hz monitor of the same brand and I love playing with the high fps. If I was to make the leap to 4k in a year or so what kind of card am I looking at to maintain my desired fps at 4k? It's probably 2 cards come to think of it...

The best thing about 144hz is at the desktop.
This is far from true.

Oh it's very true seeing as I have both a 4K monitor and a 144hz monitor.

It's not NEEDED no, but playing Borderlands 2 @ 120-144fps and then going back to 60fps looks like a slideshow, believe me i've tested it, you can cap fps in Borderlands 2 (excellent PC version actually).
144hz desktop rocks, but it rocks in games too, I soon notice when DOOM drops from 100fps to 55fps, and that's without even looking at the fps counter.
144hz gaming is the future.

What about xbox1x and ps4 pro then? What framerates will they be reaching on their 4K games?

yes 4k 60fps with ULTRA LOW graphics, HAHAHA.
it's same with a gtx 970 HAAHAH.

PC will be always the most powerfull.
These kind of posts make us look like elitists, so hush. Saying PC will always be more powerful is like comparing a Ford Mustang to a Fiat Punto and bragging that your Mustang is faster...it's pretty obvious.
A PC is only as powerful as the hardware you give it. With the new beefed up consoles, I reckon at least 50% of people with gaming PCs won't be annihilating consoles anytime soon.

UltraHD 4K is 4 times that of 1080p resolution.

Ideally you would want at least a Nvidia GTX 1080 or better. That's just for 60Hz. To get the max 144Hz, either SLI or Nvidia Volta (yet to be released).

PS4 Pro achieves 1440-1800p native/checkerboard at 30 OR 60fps in modern AAA games with latest graphics, high/ultra PC equivalent. Some games drop below 30/60fps but not far below.

XBox One X runs Forza native 4K 60fps locked max graphics equivalent based on preliminary tests and does 4K checkerboard in games like Assassin's Creed, Anthem and other games.

Checkerboard rendering can provide IQ near indistinguishable from native 4K, from personal experience using a LG OLED 4K TV and PS4 Pro.

4K 144fps in games might be attainable readily with videocards 1-2 years down the line

It's good that console users are getting better performance now, sick of all this division among the platforms. Yeah I've just read up on the AMD Vega GPUs and the upcoming Nvidia Volta GPUs so i;'ll probably upgrade when those big boys come down in price and get 2 mid-range cards from one of those series and SLI/Crossfire them :)
SLI and Crossfire never works properly for everything, just as very few pieces of software are properly programmed to be linearly multithreaded and scale with unlimited CPU threads.

I heard you can get problems with dual GPUs, why is this?

Many reasons, one of which is latency between the 2 PCIe slots

Maybe I'm better waiting a couple more years and getting a REALLY good single GPU then.

I've already ordered a mini ITX PC case for 262 euro, Dan Cases A4 SFX v2, which has room for only one PCIe slot (up to PCIe Gen 4.0 support). No reason for me to consider 2 GPUs

Like I said, I own both. I know the difference between 60hz and 144hz and it's "insignificant".

I have a PG279Q... I've no need to be jealous. I've already seen the difference myself and it's very noticeable in fast paced shooters.

Yes it is, am I jealous of agreeing with that poster or something? What is jealousy? That someone that uses a 144 or 240 hz gets more fluid motion then 60?

That is your opinion.

Your opinion could be said the same about cars.

Anything above 200hp is not need for daily driving.

But, anything more is better, regardless of what you believe is necessary.

I've seen you on here and it is clear that you believe your opinion to be whole truth, and nothing short of it. I think you need to learn to seperate opinion and fact.

This just reinforces my point. You have clearly put yourself on top of a high horse.

Reality is waiting when that horse bucks.
