Ram speed on ryzen 7 3700x
So I'm upgrading my i5 7400 to a ryzen 7 3700x but I cant really afford new ram right now. Will the ryzen 7 3700x work well with 2x8gb hyperx 2400mhz ram?

I would recommend getting at least 3200 MHz ram. Depending on the game there can be a significant different in fps between 2400Mhz and up to 3866Mhz ram

It will work just fine, but it can work faster with faster memory. Also take latency in account, as it's totally possible to have 3600 working slower than 2400. New motherboard will allow you to OC RAM, and if OC doesn't go far - then reduce latency.

All ddr4 systems can use 2133.
2400 is fine, it's just not ideal for Ryzen. Just use the old ram and later when you want or need, replace that with 2x 16gb ddr4 3200

Might as well try if you already have it. See how it serves you.

It'll work, but 2400 MHz RAM is far from ideal for a modern CPU, in particular, every Ryzen CPU because of how the CPU's IMC works. You'll see absolutely massive gains by going up to at least 3000 MHz on AMD and Intel CPUs alike.

agreed, bit like driving a car with your foot on the brake, 2400mhz will hold the cpu back and it will not perform at its full potential.

Still it's fine as a means of saving money on doing the initial build. Then later on save up money and change that ram out.
