Past 2 days funny smell originating from PC
This last weekend I put a new cooler in my PC, switched from a Corsair H100i GTX to a Cryorig A80. I noticed yesterday when I came home letting my PC idle all day, this horrible smell was in my room. I have bad allergies so my nasal passage is all constricted, and i'm going to have surgery on it soon as I can barely smell anything, but it was potent as hell. It was coming from the direction of my computer, but what was strange is nothing even package temp'd hot enough to melt anything. I came home today, and the same deal. All my cores are around 15-20 normal and 31 package, and my gpu idling at around 40c, so I don't think anything was burning.

Regardless, i'm stumped. Nothing has stopped working, I just would like to figure out what the smell is

It would help if you stated what it smelled like...burning? oranges? coffee?

I have had this issue before. I would recommend this. All the other brands are good but this one has a good reputation and build quality.

Fun fact: Your PC can amplify certain smells.

Not sure why, but I've had a similar experience.

For years, I would smell something odd come from my computers. Almost a burnt smell... But not quite. It was hard to describe it. It would usually occur around the same time in the morning. Long story short, it was everytime I made coffee (or someone else made coffee), which was in a completely different room on the other end of the house.

Try to pin point the smell. Smells can sometimes be hard to tell what they are, without visual and/or audio representation.

Did you remove the plastic cover on the heatsink? Most heatsinks come with a small piece of plastic that keeps dust off until installation, if you forgot to take it off that's probably the smell (assuming it's a burning plastic type of smell).

I've overclocked my nb and added an extra fan to cool it but too high and it smells like hot metal so if you're smelling metal heating it might be your northbridge, a liquid cooling rig does nothing for this chip and without air cooling it could heat up fairly quickly especially during gaming.
