Using Xbox 360 controller on OSX 10.10.5 or 10.11.2
Hey, I have a European wired Play controller for Xbox 360 which I can't seem to get working on any of my computers. I've installed several different versions of the Xbox 360 drivers, but nothing works and it's never recognized by the driver. My computer understands that a Xbox 360 controller is plugged in (in system report) but I'm completely unable to use it. Any tips?

Personally, I would suggest going with a PS4 controller.... InputMapper is the software I use... and the touch-screen part works as a mouse pad.

Sorry... I'm not sure about the Xbox controller

There's four types of Xbox 360 controllers.

Two of them can only work for the console, wired and wireless. If your controller came with the Xbox 360, then it's not a Windows controller.

Two of them can work on both PC and console because they have a chip driver to allow it, they come in a red box, they don't come with any Xbox 360 console, these are sold separately.

There two ways to use Xbox 360 controller on Mac/PC

The wired controllers will work from USB, which you need the drivers as said by post below.

The wireless controllers you need the Xbox wireless receiver, and drivers as said by post below.

I use this driver[github.com].

Tested on 10.12.1, but I think it should work on earlier versions as well. The driver adds a pane to System Preferences where you can verify the inputs are being received.

Are you sure about that? I have used two wired Xbox 360 controllers on both Windows 8 and Windows 10. I have never purchased the 'Windows' branded wired controllers, only the Xbox 360 ones.

The only difference I'm aware of between Windows branded wired controller and Wireless controller is that they come with the driver disc and the wireless receiver (for the wireless controller).

Windows 8 and Windows 10 do not need a driver for the Xbox 360 controller as it is already included in the OS.

Yes, you're right, this is my mistake, for some reason I was thinking about the play and charge cable.
