Getting Valve Index.. Which GPU ?
Hi everyone. I already own the OG Vive headset. But I was thinking of upgrading my Headset, so I decided buying the index Headset + controllers, but will use my Vive BaseStations.
I ordered the index+controllers but the shipping says after 8 weeks :steamhappy: long time to wait.

Now to my main Q: Which GPU Card will give me a satisfying feeling after I get my index? I can spend ~300 - 400 $ , or can I keep my current card and it will give me enough VR enjoyment?

My specs are:
- AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor
- Asus - PRIME B350-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard
- G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
- SanDisk Extreme Pro m.2 NVMe 3D SSD 1 TB
- Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB Dual Video Card
- PSU : CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

I appreciate every comment!

This should give you some impression.
Keep in mind that Alyx is a very well optimized game.

Minimum I'd go is gtx 1070 Ti or RTX 2060. Index uses DisplayPort not HDMI

The 1060 I have also has DP input, so no problem in my case if I want to keep my card.
You mentioned RTX 2060 , what about AMD RX 5700 ? Is it recommended? And if we gonna compare it to RTX20 series, which card is it similar to compared for performance?

All the 1060 are too weak

Yep that's why I am asking for a good GPU to upgrade to. I want a good FPS in VR games and crisper image.

RTX 2060 Super is in your price range.

If you want to enjoy the Index then you probably need a beefy card. If you want a budget VR experience then you're choosing the wrong HMD, considering you won't be using it to its full potential. Going by specs and the demand of graphics power for stereo rendering, you'll be lucky to hold 80hz at the Index's native resolution with that card.

And what is your recommendation ?

It really does depend on content and the frequency you want to the run the Index on. For a entry card I would go for Rumpelcrutchskin's recommendation, or better.

Thanks.
BTW, when you said "you'll be lucky to hold 80hz at the Index's native resolution with that card", you meant with 1060 card ?

Just buy the best gpu you can afford.

You can easily compare them online and review various benchmark comparisons on YouTube
