I've been using Intel consistently since core2. This 3700x isn't bad and scores high in areas my Intel would flop. A good all round CPU. Intel would beat it in high refresh rate gaming, but I'd say the difference would be small on most titles (you would have to weigh this up with the rest of your rig).

It's small even at 1080p with GPUs like the 2080 Ti that you'd use at 4K.

The difference between the 3900X and 3600 is about 2 fps (I game at 1440p). BEST case scenario you get maybe 10 more fps for almost quadruple the price for the 9900k. And overclocking these days makes almost ZERO difference in-game, look it up. But, they do manage to convince people to spend hundreds more on water cooling and other such nonsense. Suckers...born every minute.

But fps isn't only what knowledgeable gamers necessarily look for. They seek things like consistent frametimes, maximum single-thread speed, good pcie lane configuration, multiple independent nvme slots and so on.

And for some games, like modded Fallout 4 (increased AI script counts, deleted occlusion planes and the like), a 3600 doesn't cut it now and so won't when coupled with better gpus.

The 3600 is fine, but the question was about high performance. And the intel cpus are higher performance.

I wouldn't say that a Lamborghini and a Lada are equal performance cars, even if the speed limit is 30. And I wouldn't feel like a sucker if I had a Lamborghini. I might if I had a Lada.
