If possible, return it - a chromebook is basically an email-checker with no GPU to speak of that is worth anything outside of web-based 2d games like solitaire...

Check out Ryzen 3 based laptops they are around $400 and can at least run the oldies without any hassle.

EDIT - you may want to check out some streaming solutions:
Google Stadia[stadia.google.com]
moonlight[moonlight-stream.org] (open-source nVidia GeForce Experience / GameStream)
AMD Link[play.google.com]

Most Chromebooks do not even use X86-64 CPUs but ARM instead. Which means pretty much any game you know from Windows won't run.

Wish i could give you my Xpower AC motherboard and a i7 4790K processor, which i just stored aside, 6 years old but still very capable ! Heck, it was totally overkill for me but it was fun to assemble such a powerfull pc.

Never again will i buy laptops for gaming...granted, it's mobile and doesn't take much space but after a year or two troubles arise and it doesn't stop.

The cost would still be high though, you would still need a PSU, RAM and videocard,
and a PC case capable for E-ATX motherboards

I almost made the same mistake few years back when I bought my first PC. Luckily, my brother wasn't an idiot, so he stopped me from buying it, and bought me one of these old Window Pavilion work-PC. Still have it for 7-8 years. Gonna throw it out to make space eventually.

You should have done more research
Chromebooks are not made with gaming in mind, browsing and videos and such sure, but "major" games are a no no.

if you cant return it then you're pretty much screwed.

Chromebook is nothing more then a Laptop that supports Google Play Store stuff. That's all.

Link us to the product page online that has the specs. It is possible to wipe them clean and install a Linux distro
